On my way home from work today a car pulled out on the car in front of me, he stopped just in time and sadly I didn't. Put a few tiny scratches and pressure marks on his rear bumper and mine has a dented wing and front panel and the grill and off side headlight adjusters are broken, all the lights work and the bumper and bonnet aren't touched. When I phoned my insurance to tell them they put me through to the repair team who said because of the age if it needs many new parts or a new panel were gonna write it off ! They haven't even looked at it yet and it would seem as though they've made their mind up allready, I'm so gutted I cant tell you, I know this sounds sad but I really felt like crying when I went up to me garage to look the old girl over, I know there gonna write it off and I cant afford to be without a car so I don't have the time to look for another one that's what I want
I hope I don't still feel like this when I go to work tomorrow, if somebody looks at me the wrong way I'll have em put in the cells for contempt of court

If they write it off, buy it back of the insurance co. and fix it yourself.
-
I wish I could but I just dont think I've got the know how mate
-
Don;t go through the insurance, it doesn't sound serious enough and they love writing old cars off sadistic... .. . notify them of the accident and tell them you will do the work and do not want to claim, then speak to hardcor3! hth
-
Bummer dude, that sucks....sodding insurance companies instanly writing cars off without looking at them.... :(
-
i hope that isnt the case hun and you do get it sorted..
going from what you said, mine was in worse condition than yours, and mine was easily fixed..and it gave me an excuse for a respray..
Dinx
-
if its a common colour you could fix it quite cheap with some second hand panels  i wouldnt bother claiming for it they will rape you next year
-
I'm claiming because the accident was my fault (I don't fancy paying for a new Audi A3 bumper) and I have protected no claims bonus so it shouldn't be that bad, I took it for a estimate today and the bloke that looked at it said it DOESN'T need a front bumper, a front wing, a bonnet and any lights as they're all O.K. What it does need is a new front panel, grill, headlight fixings on the off side and a small repair to the off side front wing, he said due to the fact that the damage is lite I'm in with a good chance of having it repaired but the final decision is with the insurance and they've been good to me in the past when I had my first Golf. So its just a case of fingers crossed and see what happens, they should let me know tomorrow or Friday. If they do write it off I've got another car lined up then I'll save up a few quid and look for another Golf next year, so please please keep your fingers crossed for me, I'm just trying to look on the bright side at the moment and thanks for the support and kind words it really means a lot to me
-
what you worrying about then?! u bloody defeatist!
seriously chuck..good luck, if is slight damage, you should be ok!
Dinx
-
Dinx the way my luck has been the last few years I'm having to get used to things not working out for me so its got to be a bit of a habit but I'm quietly confident on this one. (for a change)
-
yeah..i know what ya mean chuck..i must be ya partner in crime then..
but it will be fine..sure of it
Dinx
-
Thanks my babber

Sorry to hear of ya bad luck..... but I had a car accident 3 years ago which was a total write off but the amount offered was peanut's and with help from the legal expenses cover i paid for (with my insurance ) i was advised "to refuse the first offer and explain unless they were willing to pay a realistic/agreeable amount I must demand to have the car repaired(and I was told they were obliged to do).. maybe worth looking into???
I didn't get the car fixed but i did get more cash....oh and what about the delayed whiplash/neckpain you now have!!!
-
You should be able to sort this if only light damage and its worth doing rather than it being written off by over zealous insurance companies
-
Firstly I have no whiplash and the accident was my fault anyway and it seems as though it mite be repaired (just waiting to hear from the insurance). As for negotiating with the insurance company about the value of the car if it is a write off I can only go on my past dealings with them (I've had two previous cars written off while insured with them, not my fault though !) and they've been fine and allways offered me very fair amounts for the cars so I'm keeping me fingers crossed in the event of it being written off. I should know by tomorrow if it will be repaired or not, t.b.h I wont be that bothered either way I just want to get it all sorted out and move on, if I keep the car great and if not thats just the way that one went  but once again thanks for all the advice and support, appreciate it
-
Just heard from the insurance that the car's going to be repaired, apparently the garage new about this last week but just never bothered to get in touch with me to arrange a day when the car can go in for repairs ! I cant wait to get my hands on that courtesy car :smug: :smug:   :grin:ÂÂÂ
So I'm looking forward to have the repairs done and putting the whole thing behind me
-
claim a full respray and whip lash.
-
As I said in a previous post, no whiplash suffered and it was my fault so I'm not claiming off my own insurance for an injury I don't have and as far as a full respray goes "I wish". They were on the verge of writing it off so I'm not pushing my luck, I'm just happy that I haven't got to try and find another car !

I'll give you a shout when I get the old girl back and then I just gotta fix a small water leak that I thought I fixed but didn't , shouldn't be long though mate . Thanks for the kind words and support I do appreciate it
-
Should be getting it back tomorrow and after being without it for almost 4 weeks and driving a Ka its gonna feel like a rocket thats on rails, after all this time they better have done a good repair or they'll hear all about it
-
Got it back today and I couldn't be happier with the repair, they did a very good job and when I was looking round it one of the blokes from the bodyshop came out and told me what a nice car I have (which was nice). Thats the second repair that Chipping Sodbury Motor Company has done on cars of mine and and I cant fault their work, so its back to me master plan of getting the old girl up to my standards
