Hi there everyone, just joined the site.
I'm 21 and live in Germany, but I'm English (don't ask).
Thinking of buying a Golf GTi as I absolutely loved it when I drove it, but I also drove the Astra VXR, which I'm still tempted by.
Everyone's opinions please?
Cheers
Jim

GTi GTi GTi
-
oooo thats a tough question..........................
GTI everytime
-
Please, there is no comparison, EVERY trade mag rates the GTI a mile ahead of the VXR, in a couple of years the astra will be worth about 50p, where as the GTI is one of the slowest depreciating cars on the market, ok so the astra is more powerfull, but in real world terms the GTI is faster and is cheaper to run, plus at the end of the day................................................................it's a vauxhall astra!!!!!!!!

Gutten Morgan!!!!
Welcome and get the GTi sorted!!!!!!!!
VXR
-
has to be the GTI - no question at all!!
just do it, will be the best decision you'll make & one that'll keep you smiling for a long long time!

Guten Morgen, wie geht's heute?
Just remember, whilst I live in germany, and have since birth, I'm english through and through.
No Germanian blood in this guy everyone!

Hi,
I was looking for a perfomance hatch, I likked at VXR, Focus ST and at the time the golf was "one to check out but i think im gonna have a focus"
Long story short, I pick up my nearly new golf on Sunday. (Relfex,5dr,dsg,winter,18s)
I just didnt like the VXR.
The focus was good and I like fords (Have been in fords for 9 years now)
But there was just something about the golf... The quality, the image...the way it fits in everywhere. I mean, take the Mrs to a posh resaurant in the VXR and peolple will expect you to order kebab meat and chips!!! (Joke)

i looked at the vxr in the run up to getting the golf
i also looked at all the other similarly priced cars, megane 225, focus st, astra vxr, leon fr
but as crazily fast as the vxr was and as well mannered as the st was the golf sits somewhere right in the middle
the megane is unexciting, and the leon fr..well its cheap

Go for it this is my third and won't have anything else

get the golf gti dsg, its faster then the vxr astra, the renault 225 from a standing start. look at yourtube.com under golf gti dsg v manual gti video. Not sure about the focus st in a straight line, but 2 major things to consider,1 is depreciation and the other 2, prepare to break the bank fueling the ST.honestly think hard b4 putting your pen to paper, a friend of mine has got an orange st2, and regrets getting it over the golf.

Hey Phil, would you mind tracking down that video, I can't locate it searching for this name?

let me know what u reckon bud
-
Yes the DSG did out drag the manual, but do you reckon those 2 japs can actually drive??? There can't be much in it - both have the same engine.
Truth is I'm starting to turn to ticking the DSG box on the options list but don't think I can find another £1330 that easily.
-
haggle mate, are u doing finance or buying outright, remember if its from a dealer, make them aware that you can go to"that dealer" and they will offer you that car with dsg yada yada, you will get in the car you want in your budget. Dont let the stealer think hes your ownly option. i had 4 dealers across hampshire fighting for my £, it does pay off, trust me, dsg is worth it, you wont be disapointed
-
Guess it depends do you want to drive in a straight line or zig-zag every where? If you want the extra power have it re mapped.
-
i dont think theres a problem when remapping with dsg, the r32 has same bearbox with higher horsepower, so that sholdnt be a worry , although if id spent £20000+ on a car , i sure as hell WOULDNT chip it just yet , you could invalidate your vw warranty, + if you prang it, and dont declare to the insurance company youve modified it,(which sends your premium rocketing anyways) is it really worth it.
-
From what I've read/been told. VW can't tell if it's been remapped so neither can the insurance company (have told my insurance comp and OH yes it is well worth it!). Plus all the VW garages are franchises so they are not likely to turn you away and miss out on a pay day from VW. Had mine done at morego so they will honour what VW won't touch any way. The only prob I've found with remapping the DSG is how fast the thing is!! Only doing 60 officer, honest.
Can understand why people don't want to touch theres though.
What do you drive Phil?
-
Trouble is Phil the deposit has been paid so i think i'm tied to the order now. Bit late to start shopping around!
By the way, the guy who I bought mine from said they could chip it up to 250bhp and it would still be in warranty as VW were doing the work. As for insurance.....
