Title: Hello. Ex Polo owner
Post by: joerog on 10 September 2006, 20:21
Hello there. I am Joe, 19. My last car was a Polo mk3 Squareback but i decided to sell and now I am driving a mk3 Golf 1.4 arround to see if I like it. I have to say I love driving it around, allthough the handling is shocking but if I am to buy a mk3 then i'd make sure I upgrade the springs and shocks.

My last car was lowered 40mm on stiffened shock absorbers and i thought that handles far better than my current Golf. I used to have a thing for mk1 and mk2 golfs but I have really come to love the look of the mk3.

What sort of price would I be looking at to get a mk3 lowered 60mm on some stiff shockers? i would like a hard ride (the opposite to the current setup)

The car in question is a 3 door white mk3 1.4 cl. it has full service history with 77,000 on the clock. There are rust patches on the two front panels and around the rear clusters. I have been given a good quote to remove all of this.

The price for the car is 600 pounds, not including the rust removal and spraying.

Is this a good deal?

I am a member on clubpolo.co.uk if any of you know it, I'm sure you do.

Thanks and I hope I can get soem advice.

Joe

Hey welcome!

I've had a couple of Polos too, a Mk2 Squareback and a Mk4, but not modified.
If you had a Mk3 Polo lowered, it must have handled like a go-kart and making a Mk3 CL Golf handle like that would need some decent suspension, not to mention the fact that the 1.4 engine isn't powerful enough for the Golf.
Mind you it's a good compromise until insurance comes down and you can afford a GTI.
