Eyup lads I was wondering if you could help me with my dodgy accelerator pedal, as it sits halfway between the other pedals and the floor. Its a MK2 1.6 Driver with the standard 2e2 carb I believe as it has the auto choke etc. Car is pretty std all round, even has the original tapedeck :)
I had a good look under the dash and bonet, and everything looks hunky dory, I took off the airbox and had a mate fiddle with the pedal and the carb does open and close fully with the pedal as is, and it wont open/close any further. Could it be possibly that the cable just isn't long enough?
When I pull the pedal upwards the cable goes slack on the carb, it doesn't stick either so I'm pretty sure the cable is good.
Is there supposed to be some kind of return spring on the pedal/cable to keep the pedal up? If so it looks like there would be a 'dead' area where the cable wont engage the lever. Ideas anyone?

Sounds like the cable needs adjusting.......adjustment is done on the carb.

If its anything like the 16v then you can adjust the cable as stated above. Try following the cable to the carb and looking for a way to do this, a Haynes manual may be of use here if you dont have any luck !!

Just had a look in the Haynes........as Gozza says, follow the cable to the carb where you should find it goes through a rubber grommet. Remove the clip that sits in the groove of the plastic adjuster (barrel with lots of grooves in). Pull the outer sheath back until the slack has gone and then refit the clip in to another groove.

as long as your carb opens all the way then no need to worry. Its an asthetic problem ;)
If you want the pedal to be level you want a taller pedal stop, otherwise you risk stretching/snapping the cable whenever you floor it.

Oh and ive lost that disgusting noise and impossibility to start for 30seconds, changed the rubber block/flange between carb and mani the old one had blown a hole right through solid rubber
