Title: '93 VR6 with blown head gasket
Post by: dscam on 08 September 2006, 01:03
Hi folks,

I am considering buying a '93 VR6 which has a blown head gasket.  It is offered very cheaply as a result.

Can someone give me an indication of what the repair is likely to cost and what I should look to have done at the same time?

Any help much appreciated!

Head gasket is expensive and time consuming job on a vr6, obviously if you use genuine parts it could be quite a lot.
Genuine parts are about 200 quid just for the gaskets/bolts.
While you're in there, replace the tensioner bolt and upper guide rail.
I would expect it to cost about 400-500 quid at a garage.

Thanks for the advice mate....much appreciated.  I had hoped it would be less then the 4 figures some folks had quoted me!!

I would of course only use genuine VAG parts.  Is there much else worth renewing whilst the head is off?
