Title: calling all late model mk3 owners. 95+

I think I'm going mad!!    I had my windscreen replaced about 2 months ago and only recently noticed that the Vin plate i thought used to be there was missing.  So i went back to the windscreen fitters only to be told it never had one in the first place and only the Mk4 had them from 98 on!!  I argued that i was sure it used to have one but to no avail :angry:  So i went to guilders VW to see if i could get one from them, only to be told exactly the same as the windscreen fitter had told me! "they didn't fit Vin numbers onto the golfs dash until the Mk4"   

Now, i must be going insane and having false memories cos i distinctly remember my car having one and even catching my finger on it whilst cleaning the inside of the screen!!!!!!!! :huh:         

So can anyone with a late Mk3 please tell me if you have a Vin plate in the front screen or not so i can decide whether to section my self or not :laugh: :shocked:  Oh and pics of them if they exist would be nice, especially to walk into the dealers with the proof they do exist.  Thats if they do of coarse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wibble.................

I'm at work at the minute :sad:, but I'll have look tonight (R reg VR6). Do you mean the front windscreen (etched) or on the dash(plate, like the mk4)? :wink:

lift the bonnet, if you can see a square window in the plastic scuttle the vin # should be visible thru that IIRC?

I'm sure my old man's M reg VR had a dash mounted VIn plate, but that was sold on a few years ago so I can hardly ring him to check.

Many thanks folks. Looks like im booking myself into the nearest asylum in the morning then :shocked:     Thing is, i spoke to the last owner today and he seems to remember it having one too :undecided:  Its all very odd to say the least.!!!!!!!

It was on the dash on the left hand side. Black with the vin in white.
