Title: Top speed reached by my 2.0 gti - 56 mph on way back from cornwall
Post by: JAKESANGEL on 06 September 2006, 13:03
Why I hear you cry, I'll tell ya why, cos I was stuck on the back of an A.A. tow truck thats why !! after having been told it was only a spark plug problem, then a coil pack problem, then the inlet valve not sealing problem, it has now turned into a cylinder head rebuild with a cambelt pack and new water pump thrown in for good measure total cost about £700 which is a bit of a blow but should be ready on saturday wouldnt mind but i just replaced the front pads and discs last month but hopefully nothing more will need doing for some time now, fingers crossed.  Anyway enough of my problems, I wanted top ask anyone what their experience was regarding oil usage, as ive been told the mk4 2.0cc gti (2001 model) does use quite a bit is that the case ??

Sorry to hear about your engine problems.....£700.00 Ouch!!

And yes, the 2.0 does seem to use alot of oil, but I know some modern cars do  (especially the new Mazda RX8) but as the engines get older they should use less

The problem basically was a lack of top end power when accelerating, then when I pulled into the service station it was misfiring, after putting on remote diagnostics it revealed a problem with the inlet valve not sealing properly, unfortunately its not really a problem you can avoid if it occurs its just one of those things I suppose, but i'm looking forward to driving it again soon
