hi all, well my car is off in to the garage tonight to get the gearbox sorted but i also have another problem and i have no idea what is causing it! when you put your foot down hard the car gets to about 4500rmp and then sounds like it is miss firing and it wont rev any further! i have changed the coil, dizzi cap and rotor arm! what the hell could it be, it runs fine at all other times just when you boot it. :undecided:
-
hall sender in the dizzy?
-
sounds like the timing is out to me!
-
Don't boot it? Mine never seems to get anywhere near 4500rpm even when 'booting it' !? that normal? usually 3500 is tops for me
G
-
defo is not normal, at 3500 you're not even at peak torque! Peak BHP is around 5400ish.
Theres a redline on your rev counter for a reason ;)
-
My engine sounds like I'm thrashing the guts out of it if I go past 3500! Didn't know you were supposed to use the red bit?!
-
You shouldn't go into the red zone, theres no power there anywhere. But just before it is fine! If you think 3500+ revs sounds bad dont bother buying a 16v, and stay well away from a honda
-
well i have aksed the guy at dubstar to sort it out, he took it out and said it feel like the ignition so i guess the timing could be out! oh and jem you should be able to get yours to 5000 with out any problems mine used to! is yours a 1.8 or 1.6?
-
1.6 aaaagggghhh 5000 sounds scary! Maybe I just drive my car too carefully! :nerd:
-
Where does the redline start? I thought it was about 6.25k
5.5 - 6k shouldn't be a problem for your engines!
-
Sounds like you're vacuum lines could be leaking or disconnected completely, that or your plug/leads or rotor arm but more likely the vacuum's
Gem - a 1600cc should be hitting the rev-limiter at 6900rpm and they like to be thrashed daily or they get quite badly choked up, best to wait til after you've run it in though and then only once the oil has warmed past 82 degrees
-
So are you talking about when you set off? Going up gears? Yes been tolf to keep revs low for now till I've run her in. But before rebuild, I used to change gear at 3000rpm. Is that wrong? Am I driving my car like an old granny?
-
Yes :P :D
-
wait till the coolant temp gauge gets out of the white zone before you take it over 3000rpm though!

:undecided:  F**k the coolant that can be whatever temp as long as its not boiling over  Wait til the oil guage in your centre console gets just past 80 - at this point the oil reaches its proper working temp where it can lubricate the engine properly :smug:
-
I'm only going by whats in the VW owners manual ;)
-
oh. I dont think my oil temp gauge works! Yet another thing to be fixed! Needle just stays where it is all the time. (You are talking about the one in the middle arn't you?) Any idea how to fix it? Fuse?
-
Check the temp senders on the oil filter housing, it should be a small one with a little spade connector on it :)
