Has anyone here any good tips on diy wheel refurb? i bought wheels for my mk2 but the rims are scraped quite badly. i woulfd like to do it but have not done this before..does anyone have any experience of this?

youve got two options really.
1-cheat,dont remove the tyres. sand the whole rim down as close to the tyre as you can,get some alloy compound and add if needed atall,then sand it to the shape of the ally, then spray and laquer
2- do it properly.get the tyre removed. then sand and add any compound and spray an laquer.and thats about it really.unless they have any buckles atall,in which case youd heat the rim where its bent and tap it straight using a copper mallet with a block of wood in between the hammer and rim

how does this alloy compound work? is it quite strong?

I can have the tyres removed. If I do this whats the best way to remove the heavy scratches ie what should I use. Each wheel has some scrapes and I might have to rub quite a bit off to get a good repairable surface how aggressive does this process need to be?

I've just refurbed a set of ATS Cups. I will not be doing it again!
£40 per wheel for someone to do it is well worth the money, having said that I am pleased with the achievement. The hours and graft that you need to put in astronomical!
I used wet and dry 180 up to 1200 then autosol for the final polish. A file can be used to smooth out any minor dings in the rims and fill with the kits from halords.
