Title: Rear Heated Screen not working
Post by: JMallows on 02 September 2006, 23:05
The heated screen in the MK4 isnt working anymore. I have the checked the fuse, which is fine, and am now not too sure where to look. I tried to get the switch out, but only managed to get a cover off, which doesnt help! :)

Any ideas where to look next? :)

Thanks

Have you checked thats its working with the engine running? many cars prevent the rear screen from working while the engine is off to save on battery drain.

I would start by checking the connections at the window itself,  switch on and put a test meter across the terminals to see that you are getting 12v to the window, if you are then the element has a break in it (conductive paint can repair this) if no power showing then check the negative (earth) connection from the screen first, then trace your way back including the switch and the relay. If these check out OK, it might be a break in the wiring, the most likely place being where the wires pass from the car body into the back hatch.

Good luck!

  The Switch depresses, and clicks down in place, and comes back up again when pressed again, but the light in the switch doesnt come on, and the screen doesnt de-mist :) This is why i assumed it to be the switch! Dont know how to get it out though?
