Title: Just got my V5, hi
Post by: Mackey on 02 September 2006, 13:25
Hi all, I know have a Golf and this looks like the best forum for Golfs so heres my story...

I am 21 and have just finished a placement year before I go back and finish my last year of uni. I have alsways loved cars I was dreaming of getting a new car since the start of the year. I had my heart set on a E36 BMW 328i Sport, as my friend had one and I have always loved the look of them.

I loved it, but unfortuatly after 3 months of ownership, on a wet cold night I span it round a corner I have driven 100's of times before, it slid up a bank and annoyingly rolled off it. Bugger. No one was injured.

Maybe the mix of a 2.8L RWD, twitchly set up E36 with LSD and primative traction control was a bit too much to soon for someone coming from a 1.2L clio, at the end of the day its my fault. And insidentaly 3 more people have crashed there since I did 4 months ago, a Impreza rolled in the dry, a BMW took out some guys new wall, then another car took it out again, and its in a 30 limit! Anyway, sorting out the claim was a nightmare cos I had a personalised plate and Elephant + DVLA = imcompitence personified.

During all this time my Friend has been trying to sell his V5, without even 1 visit I watched the price drop from stupidly high to very reasonable, before I made him an offer of £4450 with 84k on the clock. Its not in A1 condition but I know it is mechanically sound and its nothing that TLC wont fix. Its probably a more sensible car to be going back to uni in, and I have a nice bit of money left over from the insurance, rather than being skint which I would have been,. Its got everything I wanted, leather, Climate and a nice engine. Its the 150hp model, and while not a patch on the 328 speed, its quick enough for comfort and is nice and smooth, and it probably wont chuck me off going round a corner at 35mph. I love the sound the engine makes, even if maybe the bark is louder than the bite its still a lovely noise. I very much like the Golf as a whole.

A couple of questions.

When the engine is running and you lift the bonnet you can here a slight ticking, a noise like when you spark a cooker. The noise doesnt stop straight away after turning off, it slows down before stopping. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I know this era of VAG had a lot of problems with coils etc.

Does anyone know the name of this colour, its light silver, and seems almost slightly pearlesant. I cant find the name inside the car anywhere and I need some touch up paint?
