Title: hot starting/running
Post by: kittie on 02 September 2006, 11:26
I have a problem with my 8v when starting it hot. It starts/runs fine when cold, but if I run it up to temperature and then, say, pop into asda for 10 min, then start it up again, it'll start ok but then a few seconds later will die.

When it does this the revs climb up a little then plummet and its impossible to keep going or bump it. Once I restart it and drive away it's fine again. Never has any trouble starting or idling at any other time.

It's recently had a service - plugs/leads/rotor arm etc.

What could be the problem? It's starting to get on my wires!

what year is it :)
If its post 87, 1st thing I'd do is replace the ECU temp sender, only cheap from VW.

Sorry to drag up an old post but I've finally gotten round to swapping the blue sender and it hasn't cured the problem - any other ideas?

check the wiring to the throttle switches and make sure the idle switch clicks when the throttle is closed.  Have a read of my digifant tuning guide as well :)

hmmm I was having some fast idling problems too and my boyfriend found a broken wire around there, fixing that solved the idling problem.

I guess I'll have to pursuade him to look at the rest of the wiring as I'm pretty hopeless with anything electrical!

Will read the guide now, although I have glanced at it before and decided it was too complicated!
