Title: electric window+full beam

hi,i have a 89 golf 16v with a non working passenger electric window have tried the fuses and swapped the switches around to make sure they where not broken but to no avail,does anybody have any ideas how to find out if its the motor thats gone before i go down that road to get a new one.

Also i cant get any full beam on the car,yet again have tried the fuses and checked light.
bulbs but still does not work,has anyone got any ideas please.

any info would be great

hi,

if you havent already checked - the wires inside the rubber tubing which goes in the hinge of the door have a habit of getting themselves damaged, the earth wire in mine went meaning the electric window didnt work.

not sure about the full beam, is the full beam light coming on on the dashboard?

no have not looked at the wires in the door,will have a look. And no the blue light does not come on the dash.

its really doing my head in

run 2 wires from the battery direct to the motor wiring, if it moves then its a wiring fault, if it doesn't its a motor fault.

As for the main beam problem, try replacing the indicator stalk before you do anything else :)

hi have changed the indicator stalk,but still cant get full beam.
does the full beam work of a fuse or relay as i have checked all the fuses.

any other ideas would be usefull please :smiley:

am i right in thinking that when you pull the full beam stork towards you it should click? mine is not doing that :sad:

any ideas if something else is broken

Hmm, I think you might need to replace the wiper stalk as well!  Just thought, I think the actual switch part that clicks is on the wiper stalk...  :embarassed:

Isnt there a relay that controlls high and low beam?

no relays, all current to the lights passes through the stalks/switch :shocked:

Oh and 90 spec stalks (switch on column) have the main beam flasher on the indicator stalk.  I think the pre 90 stalks have the main beam flasher on the wiper stalks, though my memory is a little fuzzy...

:smiley: got the full beam going,i had not put the indicator stalk back on properly,i never put the the bit that sits behind the switch that makes it click :grin: thats one problem sorted now the rest :smiley:
