A colleague of mine was telling me about a factory model 4x4 Mk2 the other day. I've taken this with a pinch of salt. Is there such a model?
-
yes there are a few
1. the golf rallye G60 supercharged with flared arches - rare

2. g60 synchro like the rallye but looks like a normal golf - even rarer

3. g60 limited like the synchro but g6016v and mega rare

4. the 1.8 carburettor synchro ( base model with 4x4)

5. and last but not least the golf country. basically a synchro carb model with jacked up suspension (produced for the south african market i think) was available in the states with petrol injection.

Wasn't the G60 a 2wd (front), as it was slightly quicker than the rallye because of less transmission loss? I may be wrong, but that's what I always thought! Or did they do a 2wd and a 4wd?
-
they did both. a regular mk2 fwd one, a regular mk2 4wd one and the rallye which is 4wd and phattttt.....

and the rallye which is 4wd and phattttt
Phat as in heavy, obviously.
The G60 Syncro should be quicker point to point as well as straight line as it's not as heavy as the fat Rallye.
The transmission is the same, just as the transmission on the Country is the same as that on the CL Syncro.
