First of all I don't mean to have a go or cause offense to those I am refering to but it seems quite a lot of people like the idea of having a page on the dub projects section, but after the initial couple of posts there seems very little updates. Look at page 2 of the section and last update is almost 2 months ago...
Does this novelty wear off?
I understand that many dubbers don't have the facilties or oppertunities that myself, ben, joe and lewy (plus others I haven't mentioned) have available, so the work undertaken by themselves is reduced quite a lot, but surely the whole point in having these pages is to show off to the others what we can actually do when armed with a spanner and ratchet?
This post isn't to have a go at anyone or to cause insult and I'm sure someone will have something to say along the lines of my ego, etc, etc, but I do think just by looking at the last updates on some projects this section would be better reserved to those who can keep it fresh and new?
Lastly I'd just like to add I really enjoy reading the majority of posts and updates that appear in the section. :)

like you say not everyone has a garage full of tools to their disposal. Otherpeople may be forced to deal with situations where it will delay any progress, whether it be financially, lack of time or any other means.
p.s I also enjoy reading peoples projects
-
besides not having the rsources that some of you do have, along with cash/time etc, some people do actually have a life outside of there interest of 'vw's'...(mortgages, children/wifes/girlfriends/familys/holidays/other interests..) . have had projects in there which i asked to have removed after i got rid of the car as it seemed pointless for peeps to follow something i didnt no longer have, was thinking of asking for one to be bunged up of the vr i got, but tbh who'd be interested as its only a fast banger to stop me from getting wet on me bike...
dont think it causes any harm for any dormant projects to be in there... my fave has been rob's mk2 vr6 tbh.. young lad tackeling it blind really, has taken his time, but when the updates came in was a good read...
respect to any one who has had the balls to get there plans etc up there and air them wether theyve done owt since there last post or not.... not like its taking up loads of webspace or anything as there pics etc are hosted by there own means...
keep it up peeps

I will probably hold my hands up to being one for not updating a while... (actually contemplating updating this week)
Going to berlin next week hence pund savin! I gotta say half the work I want to have done to it is gonna be in the hands of someone more qualified but even in thinking this I would still take pics of it whilst its work in progress...
Im one of the lucky ones to have the Mk2 as a straight mess arround car and still have another car to get me to and from work... Be sure to have a look when I post will tell you my mis haps on airbox drilling lol and my plans for the future of the car...
Gotta say I soo want to do that Blue Dash lighting esp since I have chavista white dials but may take these out and swap for black! I love black
Anyways I gotta say I look up to you'z guys and gals who have the knowledge and write the big projects as it gives me great inspiration and a sense that if this person can do this so can I

My car has been in the bodyshop for 9 months. Seems little point in updating the thread with photos of it collecting dust or having small amounts of work done.
Did you update your thread actively whilst your car was at Designa?
-
I'd be updating mine but I've been stuck on cacky dial-up for the last month so I wanted to wait for broadband so I can do a decent update with photos
-
Well, i no-longer have the car so my updates are worhtless....and there isn't anything i need to do on the new one...
-
I dont do any technical work myself to my golf as I really gont have the knowledge or the resources, this is why I keep my updates to the dub rides section, rather than ask for a project page. I think for people like me it is a much better option. It also gives the opportunity to get feedback too.
-
Been slow on updating my thread I must admit, but my project is going to take a while anyway, mostly due to funds priorities,
I'm in the middle of house improvements and new central heating and a bathroom don't come cheap!
I could post a thread up about that, but I doubt it'd be very interesting!

I do have plans, but most of them are going to be done over the winter months hopefully, get the car in good shape for next years meets and shows...
-
yes, i got nothing else to do on my car once indicators r done! lol
-
I originally planned to do a lot more a lot faster but unfortunately shortly after creating my page my daughter was born and has been taking up a lot of my time/finances since.
I should have an update within the next month as I'm currently flaring and colour coding the arches and bumpers. The engine has had to be put on hold due to needing another £400 for new pistons and again the CarPC is also waiting on the available funds.
I'm hoping to have the cash to have a full respray over the Winter months with the engine/carPC now being postponed until early next year.
The trouble for me is it's difficult to get things done when you're on the kurb edge outside of your house with neighbours complaining about the mess  Why can't they just understand, if I had the money my choice would be to do it in a garage out of the way and not roadside. :undecided:

I will do mine in one foul swoop, just collect a load of pictures, and then do the whole report in one go. Should be alright, as it will be a few years worth of work all compiled into one mass report about it.
-
I know what you mean , problem with my page was that there were a number of things preventing me from finishin my project , probably one of the reasons you see so many "un finished projects" in classified adds , with any luck my new toy (mk1 gti) will be here soon im in a better finantial position and hopefully everyone will continue readin about my stupid ideas and plans when i start up my project section soon , maybe JV or one of the mods could clear some space out ??
-
Hear what you are saying dizmond but the good thing about that section is that if people don't update their section it just disappears down the pages. The whole first page of project cars has been updated in the last 5 weeks :)

Apart from mine which i just bumped up to the top

I've tried to update mine a few times now, typed up a whole page with pic's and everything, then I get the "connection problems" message and it all gets lost - I can't be bothered to try anymore its too frustrating to keep wasting all that time & effort
Note: It took me several attempts to reply to this thread

the Dub projects didn't start until after I had my car back from there. I would have done if they had sent me pictures showing progress. I'm not saying anymore on the subject of designa dubs.
If you've wrote a lot copy it to the clipboard before clicking post. you won't loose it then if problems happen :)

This (http://www.no-rice.com/forum/index.php?p=vt&tid=7680) is what I call a project thread.
-
To be honest I dont think it matters how often you post. I think the whole point should be to keep it interesing to read. I'm useless with a spanner and so can't do any work on my car myself (however I am learning slowly!). But I think the things I have put in my section are quite major developments ie, re trim, exhaust and now engine rebuild, as apposed to 1001 posts about changing fuse plugs. After all, less is more.

Polo's looking good on RC's Jen :)

I always copy what ive done before submitting for this very reason, had it happen once and have done this ever since. I know what you mean its really anoying! But keep it up mk1-mjmad i really enjoy reading yours as i do others such as dizzies lewys robs and others who i dont really know their names but still enjoy reading their updates.
I like others have learnt as i go along and benefited loads from other peoples advice. I also can sympathise with others about time, comitments, facilities and money issues. I started with a budget which was quickly shattered and the credit card started getting abused. I also have been doing my car in a mates garage who is now starting to get a little peeved at me for being in there so long. I also have a new born baby girl who takes up allot of my time and money and a wife who gets more frustrated and angry at me each week when i go and spend my full saturday with my car and not her. In between the lines its been a rocky last few months and after this i dont think i will ever be allowed to work on the motor again even though i have so much i still want to do.
I mainly do the write ups because my car is my hobbie and i enjoy working on it and like to share this with others. I hope you all enjoy the weekly reading as much as i enjoy doing the work. Fingers crossed this weekend the beast will spring into life and i can get back to driving my favourite car.
Dizzie i hear what your saying but hey its not an exclusive club and the old ones simply fade away to the bottom anyway. Just read the latest updates like i do. Besides i like to see an old post reserected. Shows that these dubs dont die, they just slowly get improved.
-
i got four kids work 16 hours a day and have limited cash but now i just got the sack  expect some updates!!!
-
Look forward to it mate.
-
i was round having a look at her this morning SO much work to be done  i will get there tho
-
i did update mine often but i told jv to take my section off for me.
Felt abit too exposed if you know what i mean?
-
I like reading all the updates to projects. Just wish I was mechanically minded enough to do it all myself.
I want to see what's happening to JV's Rallye, you can tell from his sig that it's something major, but no update since june, tut tut.
-
Erm, well
There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, an old friend came in from out of town....
My project is nowt but a lowly driver that gets me to work whilst I deal with my proper project which is a Mini. I haven't done an update because I've done f**k all to it to be honest. I've got got lowering pencilled in in a couple of weeks though and I'll do one then.
-

why are we justifying ourselves?

why are we justifying ourselves?
Good question
However, I would like to say that it took me 8 months to update mine...but that's pretty good for me!
-
be posting my project post up tonight - updates will only be marred by how much time I have for it - needs to be finished in 2-3mths though!!
