Title: i need to get good fuel consumption from my 1.8t golf
Post by: warwickcool on 29 August 2006, 22:09
now then ladz, just need some advice regarding changing my ecu on my 1.8T golf, its 1999 and has been remapped to aprox 197bhp,this is all well and good if you want to bring a smile to your face but not when your pulling in the garage every day,i know i should realy fill it up but if i did this it would definately cause me to drive faster, can i replace my ecu with a standard 150bhp ecu or is there more too it than that, also the mpg readout on the trip computer has a mind of its own as does the fuel gauge, the fuel gauge only reads correct on a flat straight road,if theres a bend it seams like the fuel gauge moves with the fuel if ya get what i mean, please help me before i have to start thinking about tdi's,thanks

did u have it Revo'd?

IIRC you can buy a switching box which reverts the ECU back to standard when you want to. or go back to the people who remapped you r car and ask what options are available.

If that fails buy a TDI

take it to vw and get the stock map flashed back to it. i dont see the problem though.. mine is putting out more than yours and i get a decent mpg if i drive steady. could there be another problem ?

p.s vr's are old and slow.

I would do an MPG test to see if it really is that bad.

Brim it, run till nearly empty and fill it - work out what you're really getting.

If its in the 30's then changing to a standard map won't make a massive impact (depending on the kind of driving you do, I always averaged low/mid 30's in my 3 1.8t cars)

not sure I'm afraid mate

i mentioned the Revo one purely cos i 'd seen it on their site.  Superchips might do one too  :undecided: but i'm guessing it will only work with their remap  :undecided:

i'd take it back to the tuner who remapped it and ask them what your options are  worse they can say is no
