Title: Exhaust Manifold Bolts
Post by: SAD VR6 on 29 August 2006, 08:21
Anyone know what size they are.  11mm too small, 12mm too big.  Also the size of the torques head bolts..
Thanks
Oh its a 1991 Cab

I think they used to be 12mm, but years of corrosion has left them somewhere in between ;)
Use a proper 6 point 12mm socket, and if that rounds off hammer on an 11mm one.  Any that refuse to budgem, get a set of mole grips on!  If THAT fails get the dremmel out

Oh and get plenty of penatrating oil on them first, proper stuff though, not WD40.

Cheers, the first 1 came off a treat, but the rest are driving me crazy
I want to take the head off, suspect blown head gasket, so decided to leave manifold on till i get head off, but now struggling with the 2 exhaust clampy things. Every time i get it close one more tug and they pop back into recess
If i break  or cut the manifold bolts are they readily available to replace?
Do you also know what comes in a full gasket set?
Also is it worth getting head skimmed and if so do i have to strip head of vavles etc

ah good, you have the clampy clips, bonus!
The way I remove them is to get a large halfords zuast U clamp, and swap the clampy bit outside the 2 bolts.  Then you can loosen the clamp bolts which will spread the c clip, like this:
