Went to fill up at shell today, and after filling my car the last two times with optimax wanted to fill it for a third time as it was really starting to make a difference.....noticed there was no more optimax  what i did find though was V Power, shells replacmant for it..Filled up £40 worth and went to pay, the guy inside told me it was the new 99 ron fuel and better than the old 98 ron optimax, also that it contained more detergents to clean the engine........wonder what this is gonna do to my mk3 valver?
Anyone else used it yet?

funny you should mention this as I filled up with some V-Power before. I was really confused when I pulled onto the forecort and didnt see the optimax label on the pump.
I hope its good this stuff as I used to swear by optimax.
-
optimax is called v-power in europe...
think snickers/marathon
-
its apparently been developed by ferrari, or so the speil says on the poster.
and opel fruits/starburst too joe
-
its got a higher octain rating than the old optimax though...
-
aye its now 99ron rather than 98, and a penny per litre more expensive.. and better detergents, apparently.
-
It was 99p per litre in brum today.....paid £1.05 last week for optimax
-
i noticed it was a bit cheaper than optimax was recently, maybe they are pricing it down to get you to use it then bump the price back up after we have all been running our cars on it for a month!
-
i fill up every 2 or 3 days, optimax went down to 98.9, vpower was there 2 days later at 99.9.. had to check the pump 3 times to make sure i wasnt accidentally sticking diesel in :lipsrsealed:
-
I have to remember to put diesel in now!
Never really liked optimax though. found my car responded better to tesco super :D
-
I thought it was going to be 100 Ron?
Ah well I'll be sticking to Tescos 99Ron as it;s cheap (like my car!).
As a matter of some interest to you all a friend of mine did a study of petrol when at uni studying chemistry. THey took fuel from several different stations and tested it's Ron level against what was advertised. THe results varied from reasonably closes to 10% less than advertised, apparently all random and due to the storage conditions and tank conditions at the stations tested.
THe result of all this was that if you want the best fuel for your car go to a Shell station and fill up with Optimax (As it was then) BUT go to one that opened within the last couple of years that will have new tanks and filtration systems.

Fuel batches vary greatly as well, plus fuel 'goes off' in time, look for a busy station.
