Title: wont start after new fuel pump pls help

had a new fuel pump fitted (91 golf gti karmen) 1800
now it wont start   pump works everything checked leads etc
2 garages gave up says must be electrical
any ideas please

is it k-jet or digi?  Turn the key to position 1 and check the pump primes for a few seconds.  If it runs continuously then the ECU is shafted!  Though being a MK1 its unlikly to be digifant, not very common...

If you look at the airbox, if it has lots of fuel pipes running off to the injectors its K-Jet, and if its just a plain airbox its digi :)

can i ask if you have fixed this yet??

was it to do with your battery being earthed to your gearbox?

i had a problem with the car not wanting to start at all.
was just ticking.i found out that there was a bad connection from the battery to the gearbox.problem sorted!

bit of a generic answer, but here are possible problems,

dodgy earth for lift pump/injection pump
dodgy 12v for lift pump/injection pump
loose connector
damaged relay
kinked/trapped fuel line
air lock in fuel line
