I have a 1.6 Golf CL, the accelerator pedal seems to have some slack on it before it does anything, is there a way of adjusting it?

If you find where the accellerator cable attaches to the SPI unit in the engine bay, you should see a metal clip holding the cable on. Remove the clip and slide the inner cable through the rubber grommet to take up the slack. But don't adjust it too much, make sure that when your pedal is to the floor the throttle is just fully open, otherwise you risk strethcing then eventually snapping the throttle cable.
