Ritey, i have narrowd the knocking on my 1.4 down to hydraulic Tappets. Does any one know if there is any way of cleaning them out without removing them.. or.... Well Any info would be helpfull.
Once my 1.4 is running sweet its time to get the GTI on the road
Cheers

If they are anything like the hydraulic tappets on a Ford CVH engine (I used to own an escort mk3 many years ago :embarassed:) then the hydraulic tappet is a single unit and would need replacing I think.

yeah, don't remove them and don't replace them.
it's not worth the effort. After a few miles they are going to knock. they're going to make tapping noises.
best bet would be to drop out all the oil and run a 15/40 in place of the 10/40 as it's slightly thicker.
or just live with it.

Obviously its not doing its job to well so i dont want to be causing damage... its the sort of knock that makes passengers worried if they are going to get home or not LOL!
