Title: Recycle stopped working on Mk3 GTi 16v
Post by: Nightstick on 24 August 2006, 13:13
Hi, i have a Mk3 GTi 16v with air con and recently the recycle has stopped functioning. The orange light comes on when I press the button but the recycle system does not kick in. Not good when following a diesel!

I have no idea what to look out for on this - does anyone have any advice please?

isn't the system vacuum controlled on a MK3, or do you have climatronic?  Dunno MK3s really.  But check under the bonnet for damaged vacuum hoses, or any that have popped off.

Thansk for the reply

Its just the standard aircon with an on/off switch and a recycle switch.

I iwll have a look under the bonnet for the obvious.

Hi mate, I had this on my VR6. Does it make a whinning noise aswell? Try looking under the bonnet, there should (if it is the same system as the VR6) be a 5mm vacuum pipe (it was green on mine) that runs off the inlet manifold that goes through the bulkhead right next to the hot water feeder to the heating system for inside the car. This small pipe often falls off (from the engine bay side at the bulkhead) due to it perishing. If it is this just cut a couple of cm off so you are back to good pipe and reattach it, and all should be well!! Hope this helps

SORTED! Thanks spankyVR6 :)

Found the vacuum hose tucked behind a panel as my garage changed a different hose and obviously could not see where this hose went to so they hid it away!
