Title: Mk3 AShtrays
Post by: Bodhi on 29 December 2003, 19:17
My question is, how do you empty them? Mine are filled with the sorta butts I'm not too keen on my parents discovering when they're in the car if you know what I mean.

Oh pardonnez-moi for missing a button hidden underneath the ashtray whilst it was open. My previous cars had a lift out tray, none of this secret button malarky. But seeing as you clearly know all about everything, fancy telling me how you empty the one at the back of the transmission tunnel behind the handbrake? I see no hidden button, is this ashtray the GTI owners masonic handshake?

VR6, I'm not entirely sure if the tone of your post is consistent with your staus as a moderator, but I'll answer your question. It's quite simple really. Car time for me doesn't include the boring stuff, like washing it (that's what car washes are for), working on it, or figuring out how the interior fixtures work - I drive. I point the nose of the car down the nearest country road and have some fun. Hence whenever there's something about the car I don't understand, I come to the people who do spend time doing the other stuff - you guys. Sorry if I misunderstood the point of this forum.

Not consistent with being a moderator? so whats that supposed to mean?
It just makes me laugh the small minority of people that come on here and argue till they are blue in the face about some technical subject, but obviously get all their knowledge out of reading books or mags. So the topic they are arguing about they don't actually have a clue what they are on about. Just a passing comment really, which moderator or not i am entitled to make.
Keep up the good work, you are keeping me chuckling  :D ;D :o

isn't half the fun of owning and moddifying a car being able to turn heads and knowing other people's appreication for what you've created. I love washing mine. I love working on it and making it into what it is. Some people do the same to gardens or clothes. I do cars...

Heh, when most people see a modified car, they aren't looking over in admiration :) In fact there's an awful lot of pointing an laughing round here.

VR6, I think my point was, being a moderator you are in a position of authority, which people should in theory look up to (that's how it works on the other message boards I frequent anyway). Ripping someone who asked an honest question doesn't really go with this position imo.

evo didn't teach me a thing about weight ditribution, engines, understeer or how to make a car handle properly. A background in physics, a love of the technical side of motor racing and a father in the tyre design business see to that. evo simply tell me the relative merits of cars I can dream about but can't afford (yet).

Hey 6 - We must respect your AUTHORITARRRRRR...... LOL!

Chill guys, every one has their own opinion! I am car (Golf) obsessed and mod, clean, drive, cherrish my car. I have had many people praise me on my fine motor and a couple critisize my car and laugh at my hours of hard labour and soapy hands!

I myself cannot help to laugh when i pass a 1.2 Corsa with 5 grands worth of body kit wheels and cake tins for exhausts. But then i think i bet the guy that owns that cares and loves his car just as much as me, ok his taste is a little off but really we are all the same! Except Saxo owners! LOL!

You get my point, i look at my car and don't need to compare it to anyone elses coz i love it and love working on it and looking after it. The people who tend to cut you down don't feel like this and are really looking and your car and comparing to there own coz they are secretly abit jealous! These people piss me off - coz they are just being arses, if they ain't happy with their motors they should change em not critisize others!

Oh and moderators are people too - not god like beings that don't have opinions! Everyone should say what they feel and be happy in a censorship free environment!

What? Man i can talk some sh!t after a couple of beers!

personally i did think it was a bit dumb asking how to get the ashtray out, but hey, at least you know now!

If you want dickhead moderators try Honest John. At least VR6 keeps the forum ticking over unlike some forums where you might get a post every 2 weeks.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against 6 (even if he doesn't have a proper GTI ;)), I just felt the tone of that particular post wasn't becoming of someone in his position, that's all.

6, consider the hatch buried. The M3 is still better tho ;)
