After much waiting and searching and begging of the parents i am getting ym own car tomorrow and i'm excited, although it's not a gti it's a 1.4 which will suit me, and has only done 65000 miles and has been owned by a 60 year old lady for 5 years and has full service history. It needs a new cambelt and the only other thing is when in neutral and you push towards 5th it doenst return but there doesnt seem to be any problems as we went for a drive in it. I have a few questions though. In the bumpers near the indicators it looks like there are 2 foglights however i couldnt find the button and the woman didnt know either so i dont know if they work or not but no to worry. Lights and electrics all work fine, tickover is perfect no rough running from cold. Brakes are in good condition, dont have to worry about the abs light as it doenst have abs. It needs slight work doinbg to it so can anyone tell me where i can get headlights and a badgeless grill and other things like that. Also needs a set of alloys as it's running on steelies. I will attach a pic tomorrow after i got it

on the fog light front if you pull the headlight nob thing out wards when on full beam this is how u turn them on.
Sounds like its been looked after then, shouldnt give you any problems....touch wood

when you say full beam you dont mean the one thats blinding do you? or just the full lights and then pull out?

Just turn it to the second notch and pull out towards you. Some switches have two notches - the first for rear fog and the second for the front fogs. Yours will probably have one which will turn on both front and back cause I don't think front fogs are standard on the 1.4s.. Hope that helps!
