Merry X'mas to you ALL!
A NEW fuel saving device, the Ecotek CB-26P, which fits easily to the inlet manifold, is being promoted as a means of improving performance, emissions and economy.
Any advice on Ecotek? Being tempted to get one fitted on my valver.
Cheers.

yeah i got one, makes a noticeable difference to economy, makes a weird gurgling when coming off the gas but i just live with that
go to

i thought they were just a 'gimmick'??? i heard they were a waste of money etc???? ::)
-
people said it improves performance but i disagree, seems to add 40ish miles extra a tank on tho so for 45 notes cant be to bad. what with petrol 80p a litre!

there has been some ''iffy'' quotes about this.....
but all the car mags say there ok.........
so if they say it is it must be good or they are lying!

Thanks guys for your input on this subject.

In my experience they're generally considered a gimmick.
They basically allow extra (unmetered) air to enter your inlet manifold.
The idea is that this extra air introduces turbulence therefore helping the fuel and air to mix more thoroughly and alledgedly this will result in more complete combustion.
Some people believe they have seen a slight increase in economy but I've yet to have heard of someone that has gained any performance advantage.
At the end of the day, it leans the mixture.
It's up to you whether you believe the turbulence theory, apparently is used in F1 but I would imagine that they integrate it more fully with the fueling system and therefore take into account the required mixture adjustment, rather than do a DIY bolt-on job. ;)
The manufacturer's site doesn't really give you an independent view, perhaps you could try talking to a good (trustworthy) tuner and see what they say ?

Justvisiting, thank you for your comments.

40 miles per tank is enough of a savin for me thats 3 trips to work! are they easy to fit? u could make ur money back after few tanks! ;D
-
Easy! they come with instructions takes about 5 mins tops!
-
AFAIK to fit you need to cut into your brake servo vacuum hose in order to insert a T-piece, then the Ecotek screws onto the T-piece, and that's it.
(I'm sure one of the guys that has fitted it can correct me if I'm wrong)

ive been told they are a waste of time, as is the FSE power boost valve

I was thinking about getting one of those, but I don't know whether I could put up with the sound it makes when you come off the gas.
I've used the Ecotek power boost de - coke foam and that worked. You could tell the difference imediately, amazing stuff really, so I would of thought the valve would work. I've read some good reviews.

Yep, some of those sprays may help de-coke your engine and you might experience better performance, or to put it another way your car might run like it used to before the engine got dirty !
I can't trust the "reviews", they're often either pure propaganda on behalf of the manufacturer or written by the same type of people that claim they can "feel" 20 BHP extra since they added their K&N ::) (More likely that their existing filter was all clogged up and simply needed replacing with an OE part !)
Until I hear of a reputable tuner that endorses them together with some RR output graphs as evidence, I will consider them to be a gimmick.
Have a read of this :

Also check the links given by the bloke in his review...

I had the original air box and the filter was spotless!
Honestly if you tried it you would feel the difference!
As for 20bhp, I don' know about that. I't supposed to put the engine back to factory standards and it wouldn't suprise me if it did.
It works!!!!
-
Sorry, the bit about 20 BHP is aimed at claims made about the valve and I was insinuating that some of the valve reviews were written by people that think that a K&N filter makes their car a World-beater !
(I'm not doubting that the spray helped you)

ive read about these devices, and the views fall in to two camps - 'lay' opinion that generally raves but this varies, and professionals who laugh at the very idea.
My problem, being in the lay camp, is they dont give you any proper figures on the improvements, its all '15-30% fuel saving'. Id like to see firm examples.
this is probably one of the best written peices, which basically says dont bother: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cains1/Fuel_saving.htm (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cains1/Fuel_saving.htm)
