Title: Electric Windows-horrible noise
Post by: dobsy on 20 August 2006, 20:08
Have taken the panel off and tried a bit of WD40 on the mechanism etc and silicone in the rubbers but still making a horrible sort of grinding noise when going up or down-seems to coming from the right hand side just along from the mirror adjustment. Anyone else had this and fixed it?

sounds like you need to lube the motor teeth, only way to do it is to take the whole thing out really.  Not too hard, wind the window down half way till you see the 2 bolts holding the windowto the regulator, undo these then the window should come out with a bit of faffing.  Place to one side, then undo the rest of the bolts holding the regualtor to the door & remove.

Depending on the make of regualtor you may or may not be able to split the motor & grease the gears.

Thanks-stripped it down last night and found that the rubber was twisted down at the bottom in the door so realigned it all, bit of silicone and hey presto, smooth as you like!
