Title: Newbie and a few questions re my ordered golf
Post by: mistert on 17 August 2006, 20:47
Hi to everyone, have been lurking here for a few weeks so finally thought i'd post something up.  Ordered my golf about 6 weeks ago so about 6 weeks to go (or maybe more!).  Its gona be a 3 dr DSG in red with 18s, highline, cruise and armrest.  Just thinking in case theres anything I should change or add and a few questions come to mind...

1)  Why would I want a USB port in the armrest?  What would connect to it?
2)  Should I pay extra for Autoglym paint and upholstery protector (£399) and if so how much can I knock them down by?
3)  Has anyone got any good pics of the Steel Grey (may change my mind!)
4)  How good are the standard headlamps or should I go for Xenons?

Think thats it for the moment

1) do you mean the ipod connection?
2) haggle hard and get it for nowt; you're spending over 20K on the car, the least they can do is throw it in for nowt
3) there are a few pics about, do a search specifically in the MKV section and it will find what you're looking for
4) Xenons

fancy buying me one too

re Autoglym paint thingy.  Try ebay.  It's called lifeshine.  Dealers wanted £295, got the same stuff from ebay for £30.  Just plonk it on yourself!!!!!  Or I will do it for £294.99

Q.1)  Why would I want a USB port in the armrest?  What would connect to it?

A. It comes with a USB mem stick that you put your music onto, then you insert the mem stick into the USB port in the armrest which allows playback through the standard head unit.

Q.2)  Should I pay extra for Autoglym paint and upholstery protector (£399) and if so how much can I knock them down by?

A. Its worth getting but only at a price. Where are you based as I know a man who can do it for less than half that!

Q.3)  Has anyone got any good pics of the Steel Grey (may change my mind!)

A. It looks really good but no pics I'm afraid. The GTI looks very expensive and mature in this colour.

Q.4)  How good are the standard headlamps or should I go for Xenons?

A. Crappy when compaired to XENON's - a no brainer GET THE XENON's

Thanks for the replies, I have a few follow up questions!

Q.1)  Why would I want a USB port in the armrest?  What would connect to it?

What format do the files have to be in - im assuming MP3 format and that I just copy files across from my PC?  Think I may go for that...

Q.2)  Should I pay extra for Autoglym paint and upholstery protector (£399) and if so how much can I knock them down by?

Fraid Im a bit lazy so cant be bothered to do it myself!  Im near Bournemouth, anyone know of a decent place to get this done?

Q.3)  Has anyone got any good pics of the Steel Grey (may change my mind!)

Ive now seen a steel grey and I think I want something a bit more in yer face (since the golf isnt that striking a shape anyway) - I do drive a V6 clio at the moment so i know im the chav tho!

Q.4)  How good are the standard headlamps or should I go for Xenons?

But the Xenons are sooooooo much money - are the OEM that bad?...

Cheers

the xenons pay for themselves mate cos they are so much better than standard and seeing as your getting your car soonish you'll be glad of the extra light in the dark winter months!!

The Bi-xenons are the mutts matey!  I wouldn't be without them.......

V6 Clio eh       I sooo wanted one of these beasties, but the dealer just pi55ed me off by not letting me road test one!  Is it your daily runner?

Personal thoughts are that the grey is just to grey   If I were choosing a colour for myself then I'd go for White/Red/Black or Graphite blue.

Well i finally called the dealer top see what was happening (I had already chase them to let me know when they had a build week) and they told me its already being built and I should be taking delivery by the end of the month!

I guess thats good news overall (so its going to be the originla spec as above - i.e. red and no xenons) since the MOT and warranty on my clio runs out on 8 October!!!  It will be sad to see the clio go - will miss the noise and the looks but Im really looking forward to a car that I think I will want to keep for a few years (they only last 6 months on average!)

Thanks for the advice!
