Hello Everyone,
Just to let you know my names Dan and i have a mk4 GT TDI 130 - And im looking for some help with any of the following questions -
1 - I have just bought a Sub/Amp for the car, does anyone know how to get through to the battery without drilling the firewall?
2 - How well will my Navi Unit handle to power to the amp? has anyone tried?
3 - Has anyone ever used a Sony Amp called the 423 SL?
and the most important one...
My Car seems to sit higher than most other GTis, i think this is because i have the standard OEM suspension. I belive there was an option to upgrade the springs from the dealer to the OEM "Sports" springs - if i was to go to a dealer do you think they would supply these, and would they fit without changing my shocks?
I appriciate any help you guys can give, i have been reading through and there is some great stuff on here!!
thanks
Daniel

firstly welcome mate
1) i believe their is a grommet that is suitable; can't remember where its located though  if you do a search it should throw up the answer!
as for the sports suspension:
i think they would still do it but not sure if they only supply the springs. there may be other parts involved too :undecided:
think the price is around the £400+ mark and it only drops the car by 10-15mm iirc :undecided:
one or two people have it fitted and says its pretty good

Thanks Mate, Im wondering if it will be ok to just buy the lowering springs and not worry about the shocks.
does anyone know if i use eibach springs or similar if i would HAVE to change shocks too?
Hope its not raining tomo as i want to install my sound system!!!

To get the battery wire threw the engine bay into the footwell, there is this black cover at the back of the engine bay, dont know how to describe it properly but its thin, long ang goes from the flitch area up2 the bottom of the windscreen near enough where your pollen filter is. I straightned a metal coat hanger tied the amp wire to that and fed id threw towards the bottom of this cover im describing, comes out (eventually) in the passenger footwell.
Hope that helps!!!

Easier still, if you remove the bottom of the dash under the steering wheel, there are large +12 volt, ignition and ground here. More than enough to feed your amp and save getting in to the engine bay. :smug:

Sorry to dig up old threads, but I'm trying to get my amp installed. Is it recommended taking a feed from underneath the steering wheel? I told my mate where I was wiring it, and he said that it caused no end of problems in his old motors electrics?, all be it a punto lol. Should I have any probs wiring from there?
Cheers

should you really take extra feed from the ignition circuits to power an amp, always fittted mine direct to battery with in line fuse. at least the rest of the car wont be affected by taking a drain from ignition circuit.

Take the other screws out and remove the glove box.
Right at the back look in the engine compartment and you will see

Got it sorted in the end mate, thanks for your help. However, when I was trying to pierce the grommet, I knocked the whole thing out and lost it somewhere in the bay under the scuttle panel. Should it be okay open or should I replace it soon as? I wouldn't of thought any water could get in that way?

get it replaced ASAP as if your pollen filter housing cracks water could find its way in that way

Ta mate. I better get it replaced later on today then.
