Ooh, the original? admittedly the res tof the sound in mine is original, but as I've noly jsut got the car, I ave this idea of estoring it to the point where it looks like its's jsut rolled out the showroom 15 years ago, it's a bit silly I know but..

Would you sell me that radio?

Both of my golfs came with the same sony cassette headunit - weird that at some point both owners decided to buy that unit!

The radio that is fitted to my Mk2 16v (89) is the original line fit set that was specified when the order was first placed for the car... I have the original specification sheet that confirms this
The one your looking for is a BLAUPUNKT ATLANTA SQR 47
The unit still works perfectly, and the tape player still plays as new! real timewarp stuff this! I have the instruction book, exploded wiring diagram, service book, and fitting instructions, all in a neat plastic wallet, sorry to say, not for sale, but at least your in the right ball park as to what you want...

Saying that, where are you based? I'm Bristol..

Edit: Profiles, of course. Yorkshire, maybe a bit too far to pop up for a radio

I used to work in a VW dealership from 84 onwards and all new mk2s and other VWs and Audis that I PDI'd were supplied to us from VW/Audi didn't come with any radios just a blanking piece fitted where the radio would normally be.
Over the years we fitted as a 'dealer fit' Blaupunkt, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony which needed fitting kits/surrounds that matched the shape of the mk2 dash properly. ( some dealers didn't bother and The fitment looked cr@p  )
When I questioned this I was told by one of the salesmen that it was because *VW UK didn't want to pay VW/Audi Germany's prices for Radios*.

VW's and Audi's that came from Europe and not via the UK VW/Audi dealerships seemed to have factory fitted radios as they were different spec and matched the dashes better.

* this is what I was told at the time but it may not be true  :undecided:*

Dooh! I had a panasonic which does have the license palte and the word RYDER wrote on it.. but the balance on it was stuffed, I need to test the car with a different radio I'm sure works as the elft side is funny atm, multi meter time I think.. I work with PA normally, so I've got the knowledge there, but I hear car audio is whole different world  :undecided:
