Title: 2nd gear crunch
Post by: stretch on 15 August 2006, 17:52: I know this is a common fault but how do you fix it?

Just bought a mk2 gti 8v and it crunch's to put in second gear. Whats the cheapest and easiest way to fix it?

Post by: Brads MK2 GTI on 15 August 2006, 18:11: You could try using a different Gearbox oil, Redline MTL is excellent. A weighted shift rod from a MK3 won't help the cruch but will make the change feel a lot better. If the oil doesn't work see how it goes. It's the syncromesh you see, which can't be fixed without a rebuild.

improvement in selecting gears and stoped the crunch.

go to a land rover dealership and buy gearbox oil from them maybe? heard its cheaper and better

Post by: baz_the_man62 on 18 August 2006, 13:37: sounds patronising.. but it could just be you if ur new to mk2's.. dont take it wrong way, when i first got my mk2 i was constantly crunching 2nd gear.. turns out it werent the car.. it was me.
