Looks like i need some new brakes! Disks and pads all round! Means lotsa cash!!! :(
Unfortunately i am on a budget so the big brake conversion has gone out the window! Its a mk3 8v and to be honest i am fairly happy with the stopping power as standard but i figure if i can get it feeling a bit tighter it would be nice! Like the idea of some anti corrosive disks and dust free pads to protect the alloy's!
Due to the cash flow / budget problem i was thinking of getting some nice drilled disks and fast road pads on the front and standard VW disks and pads on the back!
What do you guys think? What disks/pads do you guys use on your golfs?

I use standard kit, it does the job.
The aftermarket stuff is too expensive and doesn't last as long. And being honest its not that much better to justify the extra cash.

I am running BBT croos drilled and slotted rotors all around and EBC greenstuff pads at all 4 corners. Know how much better it makes it stop over stock? nowt. :( . waste of money unless you are going to be using it on the track and then maybe they don't fade as much. The drilled and slotted rotors look good through the alloys but when was the last time someone commented on your rotor? Like '6 says just go standard and you'll be fine. :)

VW original kit is of very good quality.
If you want more braking power then you will have to go for bigger discs/pads/calipers.
The brakes on my dads Audi 90 quattro are very very sharp, it is fitted with twin piston calipers on the fronts.

I have a set of 4 pots off of a 928 Porsche sitting in the garage right now I was going to try and adapt. Look close to bolt on. Need bigger discs is all. May give it a go this summer. :)

Like you said drilled and grooved disks do look good but its not worth all that cash unless they make a difference to the braking and like i said i have no problem with the standard kit, tis bloody amazing stopping power compared to some of my old cars! Tis gonna be new standard disks and pads all round!
What about Goodridge braided hoses? They are garunteed for life and are said to make a noticable difference!

I had black diamond discs, predator pads and goodridge braided hoses fitted to my cab. I now have a mk1 that stops! It was definatly worth the money - not sure how long they will last though!

I got the braided hoses fitted on my car. To be honest they don't make a huge difference, unless the hoses you have at the moment are old and worn.
I have also had problems adapting the goodridge hoses to fit the car, as they touch the inner arch. The standard hoses are fitted with rubber grommets to stop the hoses rubbing on the body, the goodridge hoses are not.
With hindsight, i wouldn't have bothered paying the extra money for them. Then saying that anything on a mk1 might be worth considering as the brakes are poor, but on a mk3 you probably don't need them.
