I'm looking at getting myself a set of ATS cups, does anybody know if they come in 17"s as that wot i'm currently on, or would i be better suited with the 16s?
-
14s tbh.
-
didnt think they came larger than 15 but i recon some 15x8s are the way to go for ya mate. Im orderin mine for the mk3 today!!!!!
-
im now drivin 15" from 17" on the cab and believe me, the drive is so much nicer..but its your choice at the end o the day..
Dinx
-
Hard in which way Dinx? I do find the ride quite hard on 17s. Many thanks mate..
-
its all alot smoother with 15s..general driving, parking, bumps in the rd..
you also have to think about the stress 17s are gonna have on ur clutch n steering..
because of past experience, i wudn reccomend them on a mk1, yeah its sumthing dif, thats why i kept mine for so long, but its nicer with 15s..
Dinx
-
Cheers 4 the info Dinx, i'm also on a 40mm drop so as u can imagine my ride is quite hard on 17s. 15s it is then, dont suppose uv any pics of yours on 15s?
-
thats wot springs i had on mine, thou i dont think there was a true 40mm drop..and i was actually surprised how little they rubbed..only wen tight (as tight as you can get with 17s) wen goin round corners/r-abouts..
on 17s..

Yo Dinx you're right they do look much better m8 and guess wot, i've just measured my wheels and they're 16s not 17s..... How stupid do i feel lol!!
-
yeah..ur a gonk...welcome to my world..
Dinx
-
Might even go to 14s like Slick mentioned...?
-
i contemplated 14s...but wasnt convinced they'd work well with my kit on the cab..
mk1s look well  on 14s n slammed.. and theres a nice choice o wheels in 14s as well..

Yeah i know iv just been looking at dubmiester's site, really wanna go with the ats cups tho but they start at 15x7 or 8, i'll add a pic see wot u think? (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n261/Mk1gti_2006/CUPgr.jpg)[/img]
-
well 7width is fine, tis wot i have on mine..anything more and may need arch work..
im not a fan of ats tbh, because they have been done to death on mk1s.. but i see how they would suit urs..
Dinx
-
oooooh seein them makes me so excited! should be here tomorrow or thurs! :smug:
-
Yo pro, i'm jealous!! stick us some pics up once you've fitted them>>
-
eye will do. I agree with Di tho, there are many a mk1 with cups on, but with most mk3s bein 5 stud u dont see many with them on. Only decision Iv got to make is wether to get spacers put on or not.
-
try em without first hun...as ive done..then wen u start rubbin..decide u need to put em on..like i do
Dinx
-
surely spacers will just add to the rubbin Di? Think Il be needin my arches rolled to get it lookin exactly how Id like but Il get round to it i gues. Im likin ur wheels lots and lots tho hun, they look quality!
-
depends where they rub mate.....
if the offset is too high then the wheels will sit too far into the arches and rub on the inner arches or suspension.
they will then need spacers to lower the offset and push the wheels out more, but then u run the risk of them rubbing on the outer arch lip, which can usually be cured by having the arches rolled / cut.
-
aaaah, gotcha. hadnt thought of that but it makes sence.
-
^thats wot mine does..i think anyhoo..
gonna try it with spacers and go from there..as i wasn expecting rubbin anyway and the suspension aint exactly low..
thanx phil..im sure the ats will suit urs to a tea!
Dinx
-
i hope il get chance to show u later, they should be here today!

Dinx
guess u talkin about your 15's?
u know wat offset they are? should be stamped inside the wheel 'ET' then a number....
a good way to find out about rubbing is to reverse slowly on full lock, if u can hear / feel a rubbing or a knocking, then its prob cause the wheels are fouling something inside the arches. especially if the car isnt very low.
also, take a wheel off, and have a look at the inside tyre wall, inside of the wheel.... u might be able to see scuff marks or such like if they are catching. ÂÂÂ
then maybe try a 3mm spacer and see if that cures the problem, u shouldnt need them on the back....  :nerd: :nerd:
-
its on the back that they are rubbin!
im gonna check all my suspension and wot not as well..
but ill try wot you have said..
thanx!
Dinx
-
its on the back that they are rubbin!
lol.... erm, bugger
just try and lookin for scuff marks on the wheels / tyres, or just ignore it and dont have any fat people in the back
-
now theres a thought. out with the back seats!

lol..it was only wen i had weight in the back or the road dipped or summit..but i wanna sort it out anyway..excuse for newer suspension..

Dinx
got any pics of it?
if its only rubbing under load then its prob catching on the outside of the arch due to the ride height being lowered when the suspension is under load.
getting the lip on the arches rolled would prob cure it.... £25 a corner from any decent body shop should sort that
-
ill post sum later as they are on my house computer..
not really fancyin doin any arch work tbh..
ill have a gander at the wkend anyhoo..
ur advice had been appreciated ta..

Anyway bk to the subject of the ATS cups, iv recently seen a cpl of golfs with completly silver finishes in stead of the black centres, does anybody know if they can be bought like this or do they need painting?
-
theres actually a wheel that isnt made by ats that are all silver finish as well..cheaper too i think..
Dinx
-
ats make a few wheels.....
they make a 'planet' wheel: http://www.ats-wheels.com/aftermarket_english/ats_collection/ats_
and thats the closest thing ive found on their site to the cup, which according to them, is only made with the black inserts
