I'd like to upgrade the speakers in my 16v, but dont really have a clue where to start. As far as im aware the only speakers are the 3.5" dash speakers and the ones in the boot. Don't wanna go the amp/sub route as i'd prefer my car not to sound like a mobile disco, i'd just like some speakers that aren't dying from 20 years of use :p
If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Theres a place called South side car audio and they sell 3.5 inch Infinity reference for £30 or JBL GTO's for £35. There number is 023 8033 1503 or mobile 07958 329801, there in Southampton. I bought the Infinity's for my 89 MK2 and they are a rather tight fit but after removing a bit soundproofing from the speaker hole in the dash they went in and the difference was supprising for such a small speaker.

Noted, thanks, my local halfords has the JBL ones, i'll take a look for the infinity ones. What about the rear speakers? Any idea of the size of these so i can replace them too?
Thanks

They should be 6x4 inch and plenty of places do them just try and get the front and rear set with as close a frequency response as you can. (I'm guessing its a MK2)

If i buy the 3.5" infinity reference speakers and the 4x6's in the same range will they have matched frequencies? Sorry, im a n00b when it comes to anything electrical in cars!

If you can be bothered to get some VW door pocket adaptors, and run some speaker wire to the doors, you'll have a much better choice of speakers, and at 13cm they'll sound a lot better than those tiddlers in the dash!
Amps are not just to make speakers louder - most headunits don't have the power to make the most of quality speakers.
Having said that, the setup that's been recommended should sound just fine.
