Hi,
Just thought i'd let everyone know that I got my Bora TDI 130 remapped last week by performance torque (http://www.p-torque.co.uk/). The guy who did it is Will and he really knows his stuff and is a forge motorsport parts dealer as well.
Got the car remapped to about 175bhp. He could have got more but I didn't want to put too much stress on the engine. It took about just over an hour and he took me for a test drive to see if I was happy with it.
I've done about 600 miles since the remap and I can't get the smile off my face. Huge amount of acceleration in 1st and 2nd and improvements in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. On the high end (motorway driving) the car feels much more lively and has a lot more power. Drop it to 4th at 80 at it will rocket to 120 just like that.
And all this for £185! Found him on the tdisport forum

Sorry for the late reply....been in Amsterdam
His website is http://www.p-torque.co.uk/ and he's based in Wolverhampton.
I'd recommend a remap to anyone. Cars some serious fun!

Yes, you have to tell your insurance company. If you don't it could invalidate your policy when you come to claim.
-
yes i understand i would have to tell my insurance, but on awesome gti they have a dual system that allows you to reload the original map when ever you like, so i wouldn't need to tell the insurance then . but that system is £500 so would i be better off buying that and keeping my insurance the same, or have a cheaper re-map and notify my insurance and pay more insurance???
-
inform your insurance company because if you had a crash and they found out, kiss goodbye to owning a high-powered motor for a very long time.
i doubt your premium will go up very much and it will be peace of mind should anything happen
-
£185 is unbeliveably good!! especially to say he could have got more out of it!! Apparently revo is undetectable..... which is probably the system mentioned which can be turned off/right down. However... if you have a big crash and you're knocked unconcious....u wake up in hospital when you havent turned it down and the insurance find it.... theres nothing you can do. I always hope for the best and plan for the worst and as i see it thats the worst case scenario. Im considdering a reman but might wait til may when my insurance should go down and it might cost me less, however its probable i will tell them if i get it done.

will this harm the engine in the long run or is it totally safe??
-
I would also consider this mod to my mk 4 PD130, would there be any longterm damage?
-
No there should not be any long term damage. But if you constantly hammer it around all over the place then yes you will start wearing out parts on your car but then this would happen if you drove your car like a twit with no mods.
Getting the car remapped to about 170 - 180 bhp (for the 130) is safe and does not put pressure on engine and especially the clutch. Any more than that and I was told that the boost pressure and stuff like that would need to be altered and i really didn't want that.
My advice is get it done... you'll love it. If unsure then speak to a decent remap dealer and they will let you know what is done and what level you can safely remap to. In that way Will at P-torque is great as he will give you honest advice and knows what he's talking about

Wolverhampton you say? Hmm... I'm thinking xmas present here!
As for boost pressure, I'm guessing that a mild increase isn't going to bother the engine too much... and thus i would say 200bhp is possible on a PD-130, or is that wishful thinking?
