Title: My Mk2. Where did it come from?
Post by: mickypots on 07 January 2003, 20:38
Hello All
I would like to hear from any experts who might be able to tell me more about my GTi. It is...
1986 (D) Black 5-door
Power steering
Air con.
Electric mirrors
Electric windows (4)
Central locking
Front grill is single lamp (Twin head lamp grill won't fit)

I would like to know if this car was made for the UK market or perhaps for Australia or S. Africa? I'd be grateful for your comments.

Hello Dakiller
Thanks for your reply. I tried the site, entered the VIN number and it told me I have a 3 door camper!(It's a 5 door car) Perhaps I own a GTi with a suspect history.
Thanks again for the info

Yes unfortunatley is a US based chassis entry, however it should tell you a few other correct things i.e where your dub was built. Those parts of the chassis are always the same world over

Ask your local (friendly) VW Dealership. They have the facilities to call up the details on your vehicle from the main VW DB.

We've had reports for our 16v's and they can show a fair bit of info. I think it included all delivery specifications, dates, and main dealer servicing info.

Regards,
Justin

These models are produced in the uk.  At the bottom of the seat belt there is a orange lable it think this should tell you that the belt has passed British safety standards, if so its made in the uk + you reg papers should tell you when it was registered in the uk and I think it should tell you if its an import check the dates with the papers and your plates if they are the same then you car is uk.
