Title: 8v or 16v
Post by: miketurner on 10 August 2006, 13:46
Hi Guys

I am looking at buying a mk2 golf gti and wondered which car you guys have got/would go for any 8v owners wish they had gone for the 16v?

Ok guys honest answers please, the insurance isn't an issue as I currently have a 7 series BMW so you can imagine what I am paying on that, I fancied something a bit smaller and a bit of a classic(hope you guys dont mind me calling these cars that????)

Cheers

Mike.

seriously use the search function cos this question has been done to death and there is loads of info on this site if u search for it tho. u prob wont get any constructive comments either, best thing is to take both types for a drive and see what you prefer!

Here we go again!

Mike, this has been asked loads of times before and tends to descend into a right old rant  :lipsrsealed:

Best bet, take a drive in both and see what you think, not what other people say :afro:

(beat me to it mr 8v :) )

I will start the argument off then.

16 valves are much better!

Suck on that you 8v loosers!

Ha 8v's are better as 8 less valves to go wrong! (Really had to dig deap to find an advantage there!)

But really just drive one of each and make up your own mind. I love my 8v but I've never driven a 16v so I'm ignorant to what I *could* be missing!

All about the low down torque

seriously, drive both and make your mind up....if you do long distance driving then a 16v would probably be better, but if you just do short hops about town then get a 8v....also depends on how well you like spending money on petrol....

Or get a G60

That was short... there was me thinking that it was all going to kick off again :o)

If you have a spare day or so, read through the huge thread... it makes interesting reading.

If you've got an 8v then 8v's are best and if you've got a 16v then 16v's are best  :nerd:

I've got 16 lovely valves  :smug:

My advice is find a GTI thats in good nick that you like and then fight your corner.  Personally I wouldnt let the number of valves dictate what car you get... too much.
