Title: Ceramic pads
Post by: purplespot1973 on 09 August 2006, 21:29
i've been offered a set of ceramic pads for my J reg 16v for next to nothing, but thought they required carbon fibre discs. Can you stick ceramics straight on with standard discs, be it vented, grooved etc or do you require disc upgrades??

not sure what discs u need but i beleive that ceramic pads require a lot of heat for them to work properly (correct me if im wrong) so consider they might actually be a bit crap if your on a short drive or a motorway drive..

Yeah, i heard that as well. Was also told that they should be ok for my style of driving, just might wear the discsc out very slightly quicker as standard discs work better under cooler temps. Jury still out then! Cheers for advice!

Nope, don't think you have to use carbon fibre discs? Check this out: http://www.brakeworld.com/ceramic-brake-pads.asp

Hope it helps!

Useless unless you are on the track, standard ones work fine.
