Ordered the DVD Nav system for my new GTi - October delivery. I have some questions about the spec which the dealer cannot answer yet.
1. DVD options list shows CD or iPod or USB port - I presume this is (as stated in the brochure), purely an either/or option list - ie you cannot have both the CD multichanger and an iPod connector together ?
2. I note that there is a separate iPod preparation option - armrest mounted - by Individual (?) for £265, however this also includes the centre armrest etc which is included in the DVD nav system. Seems very expensive !
ÂÂÂ
3. What functionality does the nav unit unit have with the CD or iPod connector - for example does the unit display give information about artist/album/track being played or just the track number. Do you have to operate the iPod manually ?
4. Anyone have experience of the iPod performance v the standard CD - which is the better music medium ?
5. Currently got the multifunction steering wheel as an option but I do not want to add the telephone preparation as the dealer insists this must come with a horrible phone cradle attached to the dash. Is it worth having the multifunction steering wheel to operate the CD/nav and highline computer ?
6. Already read The Doc's excellent articles on installing a Nokia hands free kit - may go this way as an option for bluetooth.
Cheers,
Cass

No responses yet  need to finalise spec soon.
May also consider buting a Phatnoise from the States. One for the Doc to comment upon maybe ?

Sorry for the delay I've been BUSY at work
You asked...
Q1. DVD options list shows CD or iPod or USB port - I presume this is (as stated in the brochure), purely an either/or option list - ie you cannot have both the CD multichanger and an iPod connector together ?
A. You can have one or the other as they both use the same plug - there is no aftermarket item to plug both in either.
Q2. I note that there is a separate iPod preparation option - armrest mounted - by Individual (?) for £265, however this also includes the centre armrest etc which is included in the DVD nav system. Seems very expensive !
ÂÂÂ
A. You can buy it withou the armrest etc for around £100
Q3. What functionality does the nav unit unit have with the CD or iPod connector - for example does the unit display give information about artist/album/track being played or just the track number. Do you have to operate the iPod manually ?
A. To the best of my knowledge it shows the track number - and you can control the I-pod full by the head unit or wheel.
From a reply by mrv "you can skip tracks with the steering wheel controls, adjust volume and mute, but that's about it. The names don't come up on the screen, just the last 2 digits of the track numbers"
4. Anyone have experience of the iPod performance v the standard CD - which is the better music medium ?
A. They sound much of a muchness.
5. Currently got the multifunction steering wheel as an option but I do not want to add the telephone preparation as the dealer insists this must come with a horrible phone cradle attached to the dash. Is it worth having the multifunction steering wheel to operate the CD/nav and highline computer ?
A. in a word YES, the computer has more options and is easier to use wih the MF wheel
6. Already read The Doc's excellent articles on installing a Nokia hands free kit - may go this way as an option for bluetooth.
A. Thats what I do!
