Title: Dying Mk3
Post by: toddy98274 on 08 August 2006, 21:26
I have a Mk3 golf gti 8v engine code AGG which has done 133k miles and is in need of serious attention.

It has had a very rough idle for a while now, plus has had the stalling issues that appear in a lot of other threads.  To solve this I have replaced all the relays, new plugs, leads and cleaned the original throttle body and then finally replaced it completely

However the car still stalls a lot when coming to stop and now it has started to become jumpy if you put your foot down further than half way

By this I mean you can actually see the revs jumping up a few hundred at a time and the car is kangarooing down the road (not a good look!!)

The cam belt is probably over due for replacement but would this be the cause of all these kind of symptoms?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

First thing to do is get the fault codes read cleared and see if  any appear again (after a bit of driving), you can get a code reader by draper for about £20 or pay a garage to do it!!!!! Wouldn't say it's the cam belt if this had slipped your motor would be fkd.....
