I'm sure we have had posts about these before but can anyone recomend a place to buy these from? Also What style of german plate should I get for my Mk1? There seems to be quite a few to choose from! Does anyone know what colout would have been on my car in 1982 when it was manufactured (if it had been in Germany) as there seems to be black and silver or black and white.
thanks for your help,
Gem

i'm pretty sure they would have been white with black letters, front and back.

sounds like some sort of superhero.....

Obvioulsy these plates are for show use only on cars built after 1972. Otherwise you could get pulled over and fined by bored coppers for having illegal number plates. Which i'm sure we are all aware of and would never ever do!

I got mine from www.dubmeister.co.uk last week. very efficient and fast delivery - great quality.

plateman, cheaper and quicker. tbh.
Oh and i have been running german plates for the past year and a half and not been pulled up on them.

Dubmiester do some good plate surrounds aswell, you can clip the plates in and out so if you get hassel from deh plod then you can change them there and then
Think the plates and surrounds delivered cost me £55 for both

Are the surrounds made of metal? Are they easy to attach to car? What do people think of the 'D banded' plates? 'D banded' or plain? Can't decide!
Cheers

Are all of these plates "illegal".
It does take the mickey tho, you put these plates on you 3 dr golf and get pulled, then some toff in his bently continental, with a font so bad you couldnt make it out with a telescope gets away with it. Rant over.
Personally i prefer the plates without the European D band

The surrounds are black plastic with different writing on the bottom...I've got the ABT Wolfsburg tuning one. It has tons of holes in the back for you to screw it into the same holes as the reg plate and sit wherever you want it to. The plate then slides into the surround and you clip the bottom of the surround in place to secure it. You can unclip the bottom again by gently pushing the clips out....well worth it

agreed - I hav the same surrounds as Hyper, they look great. I did chicken it slightly by having the standard UK font with the GB band, but they still look cool.

if people are worried about german plates dubmeister also do british fonts, but pressed metal like the german ones. no-chance of getting pulled then!! they look pretty cool too.
gem, i like the german banded ones. mine have a little dash between the two sets of letter/numbers and i've had people ask me why its a right hand drive if its a german car. maybe thats why i've never been pulled with them on, maybe the cops think its actually a german car?!
