My intermittent wiper setting for both front and rear wipers seems random, complex and baffling.
When I push the column stalk forwards for the rear wiper there is no detent and sometimes it does one sweep, sometimes it does three and sometimes it just carries on intermittently. How do it I turn it off? I'm flapping around with the stalk trying every combination of on/off/fast/slow. Sometimes it stops but I'm buggered if I know what I've done to stop it.
Also the front wipers appear to have two speeds of intermittent but I don't know what I've done to activate the different speeds.
Does anyone know.
(Car is a '97 16valve).

Rear Wiper : Push Away to get it to start on intermittent . It tends to do more strokes if you push forward long enough for it to use the screen washer.. Push forward again to make it stop , there doesnt seem to be any kind of duration delay setting .
Front Wiper : click down for one wipe , leave it there then click up . This sets the duration , then just click down and it will keep this setting until you kill the ignition .

Hearing you loud and clear adyh, thankyou.
Odd system though.

Have remarked before that this is the worst control on the car!
Rear wipe as above.
On your stalk do you have a little slider with 1 & 2 on it? On my car this sets speed of intermitent wipe to the front screen.

Does it ? It controls the MFA computer on mine

The MFA is seperate, some models have a 1 and 2 on the upper flat bit of the stalk as opposed to the front where the MFA is

Yea, my MFA is a button on the end of the stalk.

erm ...... my control button is on the end , but the 0-1-2-0 on the stalk is for different MFA modes , such that 1 - is short journey stats , 2 - long term stats . The zeros are for resetting the respective data .
