I have recently become a very proud owner of a MK4 1.8 GTI Turbo and was hoping that someone could tell me why i cannot find a boot release button! I find it hard to believe that a car as lush as this does not have such a thing! If there really is no such thing then is it possible to unlock the boot without inserting the key ie. by remote central locking - what am i doing wrong? ???
-
hello there 'turbochick', not sure what your doing wrong, my mk4 gti dosnt have a release button only for the fuel flap, the remote locking set up should be as follows, press once(unlock) will un lock the drivers door only!, press (unlock) twice and the boot and passenger doors etc should all open!!, give that a go and see how you get on!! ive never had to use the key on mine!!! :D :D ::) welcome to the forum!!
-
I've heard that the alarm is meant to work in that way but my doesnt. Is this only standard on later models? Mines a 99 - V. When I press the release button once it opens everything - is this wrong then? :)
Cheers,
Steve

no i wouldnt say its 'wrong' its just the way its been set up!!, ive mentioned before about the vag-com system and if you have a laptop, the relevant leads and software you can alter these characterisitics of your car and many more!!!, all i kno wis on my car its one prees of (lock) to lock all, then one press(unlock)to unlock just the drivers door then twice (unlock) to unlock all!!, i think this is a security feature that has been activated as requested by original customer!!, (you dont want all doors open if your on your own in a dogey car park etc!) :D :D :D

Thank you for your advice! I am sure that i've tried the double click thing before and it's not worked but i'll give it another go!
Are there any other girly GTI drivers out there or is this forum just a boy thing?
:)

There is 'golfgal' and 'vr6chick', i think they're female... ;)
-
yeah we have 'golfgal' 'vr6chick' and 'dinky' and 'speedydub' and now 'turbochick'!!!!! welcome!!!!, oh yeah turbo chick if your golf boot is still playing up you may have a solenoid problem in the boot!! (which could be caused by washer pipe prob on rear wash unit within bootlid!!) if in check an earlier thread on alarm probs!! theres a 'how to guide' link on there for that washer prob!! i could be the solenoid has got wet???? just an idea!!

i use my key fob to open the boot by pressing it 3 time ! (3 flash)
press twice all doors and boot are unlocked
press once driver side unlocked only !
i know it seem a bit of hassle pressing the remote. :)

Didn't realise there was that many dif combo's, but no one's mentioned that if u lock the door wiv ur key and hold it to the right for two 2 secs all the windows shut aswell, AND on those hot days do the alarm, then put the key in unlock to the left for 2 secs again and all the windows come down 8) :P
-
Try manually locking or unlocking with the key then try the double click method with the fob as it might be out of sync with the fob :)
Worth a try :)
Welcome to the board by the way ;D

dont tell me guys another m4 fault...becoming common arent they. must admit do miss my m4 but they should fix the problems with it first b4 bringing out a new one. call me a perfectionist but its what i would do
-
will try the 'windows down' method tomorrow' if it works great if it dont if means as said each vw is set up (by vw) as per orig customers requirements!!!! will see if works with mine but im sure ive tried before but it wont have it!!! (ive now got me rosstech software) just waint for a decent usb-serial covertor as most cause probs with vagcom software unless u have serial port!!!!!, :'(

You can change the boot lock position manually with the key so that the boot will either unlock/lock along with the drivers and passengers doors or have the boot lock in a position so that you have it disabled from central locking and have to manually open the boot with the key everytime.
Play around with inserting the key into the boot and turn one way or the other and close the boot, then play around with the central locking to see if it opens/locks along with the doors.
I had the same problem and kept getting p!55ed off with having to keep using my key each time to get into the boot.

'Rider, have you considered going for the alientech module thats fires the windows up or down on the standard fob?
Its an affordable mod at ?50, and is incredibly useful (as well as quite flash!)
It does:
Roll windows up
Roll windows down
Vent 1"
Vent 2"
Vent3"
it also allows you to put the windows up (or down) with the key in the lock, but you don't have to stand there holding it. Just twist and go!
It took an hour to fit, and I wouldn't be without it!

COR PUTTING OUT FIRES ALL NIGHT HERE, THE REASON YOUR BOOT IS NOT OPENING OFF OF THE KEY IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE LOCK ON THE BOOT IS IN TH RIGHT POSITION. I THINK IT SHOULD BE HORIZONTAL IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN IT USING THE REMOTE. IF IT IS IN LOCKED POSITION THEN IT WILL NOT OPEN WITH OUT THE KEY, GIVE IT A GO.
IF YOU HAVE NO JOY THEN GIVE ME A CALL AND I'LL POP ROUND AND SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DONE ( WORTH A TRY ON MY PART THERE)
