......utter tosh!
I'll keep you updated with the progress on this one ladies, but here's the story so far.....
We ordered the soundpack as we thought it would be decent enough, ok not BOSE standard (previous A3) but still a vast improvement on the standard setup.
The speakers SEEM fine but what's really poor is the vibration from the door cards, it's shocking! It's not a problem with the normal setup, as the front speakers are pretty poor. But with the extra speaker in the doors it's bloody awful! The cards just can't handle the speakers at all, I think they are just compressed carboard!!!
Even with the Bass turned real low (-) it's still awful and certain CD's are now not even tried in the Golf. The radio seems to be the only thing that doesn't get the door cards going!
We've had the dealer look at it, this took some time and we had to demonstrate the issue as they couldn't find it?!? I pressumed they didn't know how to play a CD
Once they realised this was an issue they contacted VW HQ, the reply is 'they are aware of the issue and would you like your £695 back?' Shocking!
The other option was to deal with VW HQ direct, and see if they can sort a rectification with a ICE specialist! Not really an ideal solution IMO, experiance has taught me that these things never quite go back together as well.
So currently the misses is in discussion with the dealer to see what can be sorted!
I'll keep you posted!
UPDATE - Now waiting for a call from VW HQ
-
It is a problem with the normal set up to matey
Take the $, upgrade the speakers & fit some dynomat, Mat
Thanks for the reply BTW
-
That's our current thinking! I had to do the same to my CTR, which also had the worst stereo in the history of stereos, even worse than the VW!!! I was surprised how much of a difference dynamating made, it also shut out a lot of tyre noise which was a bonus...
I'm going to pop into a decent recommended tuner next week once HQ have confirmed a payout, hopefully that'll sort it..... either that or the misses will kick off with VW get a full refund and buy another Audi!! Nooooooooooooooo
How poor of VW to admit there is an issue and do NOTHING to rectify it!?! And then still fleece you for the upgrade and hope no one notices! Shocking!
I'm glad you liked your message, that's if it made sense
-
I would go the dynamat route anyway. As had already been said, it will cut out road noise and improve the sound of the stereo. If Vw give you a refund for the extra you have benifited double so although you have been put out a little its not all bad
-
The worst bit for me is that the speakers in my caddy van sound wicked - they have 6 1/4" woofers in the doors and soft dome tweeters on the dash and don't rattle etc right upto the max!
VW caddy vans are very well built with no detected faults whatsoever thus far
-
I can see the misses in a caddy LOL
I think you're right golfpro, if they give us some silence money and we get it improved then lovely stuff. It would be nice to have some left over for a bit of tinting
-
lool my missus wont go in the van and says I'm like a gypo coz I use it so much - come to think of it that has prob got nowt to do with the van

UPDATE!
VW HQ are now in discussion with the misses, current refund has been rejected. Like the misses said at the time of buying the motor, she would not have bought it if she knew the sound pack was rubbish!
VW are aware of the issue, and are getting more complaints! All I can say lads, is that SHOULD you have any issues with vibration through the door cards then get it back to the dealer and escalate the issue!!
I don't really want our motor to be taken apart and fixed by an ice specialist, this COULD effect future warranty issues etc. I want VW to sort the problem and if not then either sort decent compo or take the car back and we'll get an Audi with BOSE! that always worked a treat in the A3
-
Guys, I've had exactly the same issue with my 55 GTI from day 1, it's been in 3 times to be 'Fixed' (Not), and it's only got the standard audio set up in it!! Is the upgrade a recent addition to the options list, sure it wasn't available when I ordered my motor 19 Months ago, I would have taken it otherwise (But guess I'm glad I didn't hearing what you've said!).
-
VW seem to be going the same way as many car manufacturers, build them cheap and bang them out to see what the problems are. If I were in your position VW would be taking the car back at full price and I'd go buy myself a nice Audi as the Bose systems in them are amazing! I have an 89 mk2 and that doesn't rattle with an aftermarket stereo and no Dynamat so a brand new Golf should be silent. Not that it helps much but I wouldn't even be thinking about an aftermarket solution, fix it or come take it away!
-
For the record...
The '55 A3 3.2 q s-line that we have has BOSE and the front door speakers rattle in that too...
-

That what the misses is thinking at the mo! We're still waiting for them to call with a solution, time will tell if they have one... The car is a fantastic drive, but it's such a shame that they felt the need to save a euro or two on the door cards!
-
Same problem here!
I was extremely impressed with a former BOSE system in an A4. I felt that the standard golf stereo wasn't up to much so went for the soundpack and have been dissapointed.
I don't even turn the volume up because of the vibrations in the door panels. It's been back to the dealers on numerous occasions but has not been rectified.
Mines a year old now and has had the same problem for a year. It's a real shame because it's only this issue and a squeeky centre dash top vent that let the whole car down.
-
Still waiting for that call!!!!!!!
If enough of us complain then they'll have to sort it! They did say that they are now getting more and more reported issues through the stealers, it's a thought lads.......

Random pics??? Add to random forum!
Latest = VW HQ are now talking of it being a characteristic of the upgraded tunes!!!!! Total joke!
They say that there are only 2-4 reports of similar issues!!!!
So now they are passing the refund talk to the dealers! Not at all what is now wanted, but we'll see what comes from it.
I certainly don't think I'll be looking at adding to the VW family at the mo!

My dealer blamed it on the production of the CD! WTF, do they expect me to take the issue up withe the individual record producers.

What a load of tosh!!!!!!!!
Latest = The motor has been to a specialist in Oxford and there thoughts are that the doors would need to be soundproofed first, but we'd still have a problem as to much of the bass is put through the front, so then it would be a new amp and sub in the boot. That's all fine but the price for this is 500 notes, whereas a refund would equal 675 notes. So I wonder what the decision with this will be........................
I would have thought that we'd need a crossover, but then I'm NO iCE expert so feel free to explain

Sub amps have a built in crossover - you can lower the bass in your headunit to stop the door cards vibrating without even touching them!
Matt, try making the bad noise in your car, then turn the bass on the set to middle of the road (or lower) and see how loud it can go before vibration / distortion stops you.
Normally this is quiet loud so you can use the sub to give you your missing bass.
I'd go for a self powered 6.5" or btter still the 8"Bazooka tube - they've been around for donkeys and have the amps / crossovers built in.
The sound from this tube will compliment the VW unit very well and they only cost around £150 incl postage from the states.
Install sound cost around £50-60!
IMHO
Good Luck
-
Thanks for that Doc, living without bass would be so sad but it may make things a little less annoying for a few weeks
So the Bazooka sounds like a decent option, i'll get checking the net.........
