Title: MK3 GTI ENGINE CUT-OUT PROBLEM!!!
Post by: indigo274 on 03 August 2006, 14:23
VW GOLF GTI (L REG) - is suffering an intermittent engine cut-out problem that has baffled 2 Garages, and a dozen RAC men!  There is no constant pattern and the car can go fine for hundreds of miles, or only ten miles, and without warning the engine cuts out and will not restart, but after the usual checks and fiddling around for varying periods of time it seems to inadvertantly get restarted.  At the same time as the engine cutting out the instrument clock time is briefly wiped out but  then resets itself to zero indicating a power loss. So far the Alarm System has been removed,  Engine Management Relay replaced, CPU sent away and tested. The coil pack has now been ruled out and Distributor replacement considered and put on hold.  ANY IDEAS!
