My driver side electric window finally gaveup the ghost last week. It had been making some funny grinding noises for a while now. Then I pushed the up button fr the window adn promptly watched it drop insiide the door.
I thought about repairing it myself but once I had the door lining off I thought to myself sod that and took it to Wayside VW in Milton Keynes. I had a chat with them and they said it would cost approx 110quid to repair less vat. I decided to wait till after Christmas as I was going to Germany to visit friends.
When I got to Germany I thought I might as well see if the VW garage over there could do anything. I took it in adn they quoted me 120euros all in. Without thinking twice I got the car in and had it back an hour later.
Here we go:-
1. New electric window mechanism 62euros
2. Labour 41 euros
3. VAT (or equiv) 16euros
total 119 euros
Why cant things be that cheap and easy in the uk and still have a VW reciept!?

My electric window gave up once, so got new mech from scrappy for a score and fitted it in about 20 mins :).

You're right we get ripped off over here.......and whats more we get cr@p service........you'd have probably had to book it in weeks in advance :(

I couldnt get it in before 30 Dec anyway in the UK coz I had to wait for the spares to be ordered. Lucky for me I guess.

argh. mine go down, just struggle to come back up >:(
I'm gonna plug them straight onto the battery to see if it's a case of not enough juice getting to them. if not time to buy some new ones

MIne do the same, before you bother with wiring em to the bat etc try this. Lower them half way and try rocking them front to back of ya golf. If they move then they have simply come unseated and need to be fixed in place properly. Cause what happens is as you press for them to go back up they rock forward and catch on more rubbers than they should causing more friction between the glass and rubbers. Seat them proberly and the problem will be sorted :)
In fact I just noticed you have the earlier windows with seperate glass so this may not work on your car. Try it tho.......................
