Hi only just registered here so go easy on me!!
Recently bought a MKV GTi and it too had the steering rack issue that has been well documented on here.
Took it to my local dealers this week to have new rack put on (which they have done) and they have informed me that they will require the car back to put new springs on the front!
The knocking/grinding noise that I (and my dealer) thought was comming from the steering rack may have been the front springs - which VW are now working on an upgrade for. They have said as soon as they have notification that the new parts are available they will replace these too.
Anyone else heard of this being an issue??

Nightmare!
But maybe they'll give you a fast road setup with the front suspension
Is it a problem with the strut cap?

Oh FFS!

All that they have said is that they will have to replace the front coil springs once the new ones are available.
TBH the noise has gone since they have changed the rack but I think I'll still get the springs changed!!
