i want to know if every1's gti pisses on a saxo vtr because my friend has one n i wanna beat him in a race when i get my gti n he reckons they will be slower then his 1.6 coz there old(he knows nowt about golfs though)
-
Straight line? or a proper race?
-
proper race and straight line
-
i've no idea about straight line.
but a proper race it's gonna be down to the driver.
I know a guy that is fckin quick in 1.1 clio !!!!!
-
mk1 or 2 gti? Mk1 1.8 should nail him. Mk2 should be fairly even ;D
-
not sure as the VTR is 16v or 8v, or is that the VTS? ???
if ya loose then compete against built quality and see who can pull the most things off the interiour in a minute.lol :P
flippin french cars! >:(
-
vtr is 8 valve 90ish bhp, vts is 16v 120bhp flippin quick too.

little cars, i should imagine they're quite nippy
not exactly a mans motor tho are they!
the girlfriend would rip the pi$$ if i had one of those... ;)
-
Who cares? does anyone on here actually want to own a citreon?
stick with golfs for class ;D
-
french cars are not worth racing! ;)
They are not worthy! :P
-
i no french cars are pointless to race but he needs to no where he stands against my mk2 8v when i get it

Actions speak louder than words, buy a Golf & then give your mate a call 8)
-
i own a citroen and it is most unreliable thing i drove n all i cud afford i can tell golfs are way better even though i never drove one they just look cool and a god solid car
-
rob get used to drivin your golf before you go racin otherwise they may be an accident!!!!, gettin into a mk2 8v is gonna be a big change from the 1100cc citroen ax youve got at the mo!!!!!!, yeah your gonna feel a helll of a lot faster but it dont mean your 'invinsible'!!!! seriously get used to the power and the way your car drives before you have a serious play!!, i cant endorse road racing etc, but i dont disagree with it!!!!, as long as your not one of the wonkers that does burnouts in the carpark behind my house at 2am i dont care!!! have fun and go steady!! (well to start off with!!) :D ;D
-
the vtr is 0-60 in 9.5 seconds (90hp) about the same as the 8v gti so its down to the driving.
vts 0-60 in 7.6 but its still a saxo
-
Like everyone says it's down to the driver. One of my mates hangs with me in an old clio 16v. Irritating as can be but I have to admit he can really drive that little frog motor. To me my Golf is more about style, reliability, and sheer fun. Yes it is quick but when it comes down to it there will always be someone faster someplace.
-
Drove a vtr, quick cars but a reckon u cud win him just on sheer style n quality of the golf! But i'm biased! ;D
Mind i did know a guy who had a 1.1 saxo, was the fastest little fcuker u hav ever seen! That lad cud drive, shame he was a knob!
Dinky :-*
-
i aint into doin burn outs n stuff waste of a tyre i will take it easy to start with get the feel of the car see how it performs cheers all

Non@franc?is!!! lmao :P

the saxo will be far faster, to rot and fall to bits. my golf is a 1985 gti mk2, i bet in 18 years time a saxo wont be anywhere nearly as good a condition.
the thing about racing is i dont consider it to be a race unless its a proper 1/4mile event or on a track. my 1/4mile and track car is a turbo nova with extra go faster goodies. round town an xr2i could probably beat me as i aint up to taking the risks.
i dont see golfs as particularly fast cars, just far superior cars. if you want to buy a car thats quick for 10 mins buy a saxo, if you want a car that will last and give you pretty much no hassle buy a golf. if every little boy hadnt bought a saxo, if you think about it they probably would be good cars, sme goes for prezza's, everyone has them so theyre crap.

Early VTR's were 90bhp... there now 98bhp (quoted as 100Bhp)

I don't think u can judge a car buy the amount there r of it on the road,if thats the case, golfs wud b way sh!te!
Vtrs/or vts's r quick cars, bollox to anyone who says they aren, even thou they r french.Ur talking speed not build, reliabilty, style so aye,it will beat u,if so,put a big lumpa in ur car then kill its ass!

A car last as long as u long after it!Wanna a fast car, build one!Wanna a nice looking one, build oneThere is no car,old or new, what is left standard by a proper car owner these days, cos they aren what they were!Even if some stoopid nove driver just adds an induction kit!Still a mod!
I did used to rate the saxo(i know-don't say out!)cos they were the car of their time, but they r unreliable n french!
;)

I can't understand why people think that vws are slow compared with the competition???
Golf 1.8T/V6/R32 , not exactly getting slow are they?
-
dinky, fair point old boy, but what i meant was a saxo wouldn necessary be considered as a boy racers car if they hadn all been bought by 17 year old snots for the free insurance. say for exapmle the clio 172, i respect them cars a lot, but if every little boy had one, i wouldnt. aint got nothing to do with how fast they are i guess, more along the lines of top gear cool wall eh?
the problem with the 1.8t, r32 and v6 4 motion golfs is not that they are slow, but if you have ever been in one (mates own r32 and another a 1800t and another r32, jammy bastids) they are stupidly fast, but dont feel it as they were built to be sooooooo smooth aswell. v6 4motion vs calibra turbo. 2 of my mates bought one of each of them, one a vauxhall boy, one a vw boy. 4 motion feels so much slower than the cally turbo when your in it, but is actually faster. bizarre.
-
as an ex saxo vtr owner, i hav to stick for them a little bit, i had my 96 plate for 31/2 years, an all i had to do wiv it is but new tyres a radiator an regular servises, believe it or not the best car ive had, but def aimed and suits younger boy/girl racers a golf is far more of an enthusiasts, an better built car.if i'm honest i would say that my saxo was more fun to drive than my golf! BUT i feel tougher richer an faster in the golf ;D
-
glad you like your golf!!!, thought you were gonna go all french on us then!!! lol ;D
-
dinky, fair point old boy
