Hi,
Just joined this forum for some help & advise. My daughters Golf GTi tailgate won't shut.
It bounces back without latching.
I've tried adjusting the bumpers on the side HOW do you adjust those things!! but don't think it's that.
The opening latch (VW badge) makes a funny graunching noise when you operate it also. Not sure if this is related?
Also How do you get the inside plastrim trim off 'cos I removed the 2 screws inside the pull down handle recesses but it still won't come off?
I have also sprayed inside latch hole with WD40 but no change.
Help!
Regards

Pull harder on the plastic liner - starting at the outside...
or try this...
Open the boot and find the "plug" in the picture below...

then pull HARD on the plug / cover

then insert your finger into the opening and press the metal lever to the right to release the lock...

it should work but if not it may need some help in the form of inserting a pen or screwdriver into the latch and pulling down at the same time...

Thanks Doc,
I've had the small plastic plug off, no probs.
The tailgate latch, picture where you have a pen in it, is already open resulting in it not closing around the stricker pin when slaming the tailgate shut.
I'll try pulling harder on the plastic trim panel as I think I need to get access inside to fix it, whatever it is?
Thanks for reply.

Sorry dude I thought you meant the latch was closed but was not releasing.
OK if you try to close the latch with a pen or screwdriver does it lock into place then?
