Title: Electric Window Broken
Post by: LGTI on 31 July 2006, 23:51
My drivers side window was reluctant to go go back up recently, but seemed to sort itself out. Started doing it again yesterday and got steadily worse. Today the window has dropped into the door (by itself) leaving a 4mm opening and will not work at all. When the button is pressed the motor is making a grinding/whirring (much rougher noise than it should be) but nothing happens. The window will not move at all!

Anyone got an idea what it might be?

Thanks

Dunno , sounds like you better take the inner card out and have a look .

You,ll not find out until you strip the card out and investigate. I had the same problem and when I went into it I found that a winding wire had lost its yellow end cap and was riding over the motor. Unfixable. Sourced a complete motor and winders etc of ebay. Stripped the old one out and replaced with new one. Car is now sorted. So...........you need to remove the door card.

Sorry, should have said, I had the door card off but still cant really see anything?! Did you remove the motor to see what was wrong, because even with the door card off you cant see?

Thanks

yeah lift your window up by hand , tape it up there with strong tape . then release the holding bolts and get the mechanism out .

I used a little mirror and a torch to see my problem. Its not the easiest way of seeing but it will give you some idea.  I hope its something simple. But with the noise you say its making .........................best of luck.

cable's snapped and the grinding, is the old cable winding up in the gears.....

:smug:... did you expect anything less :afro:

they can be repaired with the cable off a manual mechanism...
