Is a GTI 8v box the same as a 16v, if not would the clutch mechanism in the end of the box fit in the 16v box? The arm has snapped in my 16v and i know where there is 8v box. Any comments a great help ???

I'm fairly certain the gearboxes are different. I think you can still fit the 8V box but you may have to change the clutch assembly. As for that arm, not sure, I'll have a look in my ETKA, see what part numbers it throws up, if any.

Can you give me an engine code? I need it to find the correct gearbox for your car
-
The engine number on the documents is KRO94760, the arm i am on about is the sort of C shaped arm that pushes the rod through the box to the clutch. cheers

I'll see what I can find.

Sorry djgolf, I've been really busy and up to my eyes in work, haven't had a chance to look for you. I'll have a look right now. Sorry to ask so many questions but how old is your car? Haven't managed to find that engine code yet so maybe I'm not looking in the right year :-/

Is it item 20 (highlighted) that you're after? Looks like its the same part number for 8V and 16V gearboxes.
-
Yes it is that part, been told by other people that it is the same so ive brought a cheap 8v box to get the part. thanks for you help. Dewi

Just out of curiosity, couldn't you have gone to VW-Audi with that part number and just bought that bit? Would have thought it would have been cheaper than a whole gearbox, even at VW-Audi prices. Glad you got it sorted anyway.

Got a box and a heater fan of a bloke for ?30, wont have to go to the trouble of fitting the little part, just bolt on the whole end piece. Dewi

For 30 quid I don't blame..........wouldn't mind betting it would have cost the best part of that from VW-Audi and then you have the hassle of fitting it >:(
